Edge Case is looking for a UX Designer
(Contract position up to 30 hours per week)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate UX Designer to craft intuitive and powerful data visualization experiences for our enterprise platform. In this critical role, you will be responsible for designing a fluid and actionable user experience that enables customers to visualize real-time datasets, document artifacts, and critical safety engineering elements within autonomous systems and other complex engineering domains.
You will play a pivotal role in empowering our customers to quickly identify, understand, and mitigate concerns in their systems, minimizing operational disruption and maximizing efficiency. This is an exciting opportunity to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights through innovative design.
Responsibilities:
- Design End-to-End User Flows: Own the complete UX design process for enterprise data visualization, from initial research and ideation to wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity mockups. Go beyond ‘look and feel’ to building a fluid user journey.
- Visualize Complex Data: Design compelling and efficient ways to visualize large, real-time datasets, enabling users to quickly identify trends, anomalies, and critical information within complex engineering environments.
- Balance Detail and Insight: Skillfully balance the need to display detailed information and data lineage with providing quick, actionable insights that enable users to make rapid decisions and minimize operational disruption.
- Safety Engineering Focus: Design specific UX elements for documenting artifacts and other critical elements of safety engineering, ensuring clarity and ease of access for compliance and risk mitigation.
- User Research & Testing: Conduct user research, usability testing, and gather feedback to inform design decisions and iterate on solutions.
- Collaboration:Work closely and effectively with cross-functional teams including product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and domain experts to translate requirements into elegant and functional designs.
- Prototyping & Handoff: Create interactive prototypes using design tools like Figma to communicate design concepts effectively and provide clear specifications and assets for engineering implementation.
- Design System Contribution: Contribute to and evolve our design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across the platform.
- Storytelling & Leadership: Effectively articulate design decisions and the user experience vision to executive leadership and stakeholders, leading compelling storytelling around product value.
- Stay Current: Keep abreast of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in UX design, data visualization, and front-end development.
Qualifications:
- Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States. The company does not sponsor work visas.
- 5+ years of experience as a UX Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in data visualization for complex systems.
- Demonstrated experience designing for enterprise-level applications, particularly in engineering, automotive, aerospace, or other highly technical domains.
- Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, especially Figma.
- An understanding of front-end technologies and their capabilities, particularly with experience or familiarity with frameworks like Vue.js.
- Solid understanding of information architecture, usability principles, and user-centered design methodologies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present and defend design decisions to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with documenting design specifications and collaborating with engineering teams for seamless implementation.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or complex embedded systems.
- Familiarity with safety-critical software development processes (e.g., UL 4600 , ISO 26262, DO-178C).
- Experience with data storytelling and presenting complex information to non-technical audiences.
