Great American Insurance Group’s Public Sector Division provides customized insurance programs that meet the unique risk management needs of local, county and state governments, education organizations and special services districts, housing departments or other entities designed to serve the general public.  The targeted classes within these public entities include municipalities, public schools, community colleges and counties. Great American offers coverage in the reinsurance and excess insurance markets through Pools, Trusts, Joint Powers Authorities, Reciprocals, Mutuals, Captives and Individual Risks in the public entity space.

The Public Sector is seeking a Program Manager/Production Underwriting Specialist to manage and run their program business. This position offers the flexibility of full remote work for candidates located in the eastern and midwestern region of the United States.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Market, evaluate and price products and services for program business within Public Sectors target classes of business.

  • Oversee and manage relationships with MGUs/MGAs/Program Administrators.

  • Lead the development of  underwriting guidelines and Letters of Authority for MGUs/MGAs/Program Administrators and standards and procedures for those exceptions outside of the underwriting guidelines.

  • Partner with key support units, including Actuarial, Claims, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to analyze issues, identify solutions and drive execution on challenges faced by company, partners and customers.

  • Perform audits and conduct program reviews.

  • Identify and manage portfolio-level risks, issues and dependencies.

  • Serve as the primary contact with each direct insurance program for all administrative, underwriting and service concerns or questions.

  • Drive the implementation of new and existing programs including development of underwriting guidelines, form/rate filings, compliance/regulatory matters, finance, reinsurance, claims, legal, accounting, actuarial and marketing matters.

  • Build and maintain relationships with support units, brokers, and reinsurers to support the goals and objectives of company.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in Underwriting or a related field.

  • Prior experience overseeing and managing a Managing General Agent (MGA) for an insurance carrier. Public Sector experience is preferred.

  • Ability to travel 3-5 times per year to conduct agency visits and audits .

$140,000.00 -$200,000.00
