The Training and Documentation Lead owns all training delivery and technical documentation for a deployable tactical communications program. This role develops and delivers hands-on training to military operators and Government personnel on SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, baseband networking equipment, encryption systems, and deployable communications suites including Emergency Response Terminals (ERTs), Mobile Command Posts (MCPs), and Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs). 

You will author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials for the full system inventory, ensure documentation stays current through system modifications and tech refresh, and provide on-site training support during field exercises, annual maintenance visits, and emergency deployments. 

Primary Responsibilities 

Training Development & Delivery 

  • Develop and deliver new user, new equipment, and refresher training on all program systems. 

  • Deliver hands-on ERT training at remote sites during annual maintenance visits, covering: 

  • Site selection and ERT employment/operation 

  • Common and field repair procedures 

  • Operation of all onboard IT, telecommunications, and support systems 

  • Create and maintain instructor guides, student handbooks, quick reference cards, and practical exercises. 

  • Track training completion and proficiency across all program personnel and tiers. 

  • Verify that technical support personnel maintain current formal operator certifications on program terminal systems. 

Technical Documentation 

  • Author and maintain SOPs for each system in the program baseline, including: 

  • System components, capabilities, and applications 

  • Installation, start-up, and shut-down procedures 

  • Network management and system-level connectivity 

  • Maintenance procedures and troubleshooting 

  • Operational procedures 

  • Update documentation to reflect system modifications, tech refresh, and operational lessons learned. 

  • Provide documentation input to the Preventative Maintenance Plan (PMP) and Software Patch Maintenance Plan. 

  • Maintain version control, review cycles, and distribution tracking for all technical publications. 

Field & Exercise Support 

  • Provide on-site training and documentation support during field exercises, deployments, and emergency response activations. 

  • Conduct pre-deployment operator training and post-deployment after-action documentation capture. 

  • Coordinate with system engineers, FSRs, helpdesk, and spare parts/logistics teams to keep documentation aligned with current configurations.

Baseband & Networking 

  • KLAS ESRII, SW26, VMM routing/switching modules 

  • WAN optimization systems 

  • VVoIP and VTC systems 

  • Streaming video systems (classified and unclassified) 

Encryption & Cybersecurity 

  • HAIPE Type 1 encryption 

  • AES-256 

  • Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) 

  • Risk Management Framework (RMF) and STIG/SRG compliance 

Platforms 

  • Emergency Response Terminals (ERTs) and Sentinel systems 

  • Mobile Command Posts (MCPs) and Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) 

  • Cell on Wheels / Wi-Fi trailers 

  • Logistics and asset management platforms (e.g., ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus) 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Communications, IT, Instructional Design, Technical Writing, or related field) 

OR 

  • 4–6 years related military experience in tactical communications training or technical documentation with relevant certifications may substitute per contract. 

Experience 

  • Minimum 5 years developing and delivering training in a DoD tactical communications or SATCOM environment. 

  • Demonstrated experience authoring SOPs, technical manuals, or training curricula for military audiences. 

  • Hands-on experience with deployable communications systems: VSAT/SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, baseband routing/switching, RoIP, VVoIP, or similar. 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold an active Secret clearance.
