Overall Purpose

The Trade Compliance Specialist will ensure adherence to trade compliance policies, procedures, and best practices; apply for export authorizations as necessary; prepare Customs documentation; and manage export authorizations to ensure compliance with Export Administration Regulations (EAR).  This person will be involved in all phases of export and import transactions.

Additional responsibilities are to administratively support regional operations needs as requested.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary point of contact for global trade compliance for reporting requirements.
  • Work cooperatively and proactively across functional areas to maintain and ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures, U.S. export laws, rules and regulations.
  • Ensures the use of Destination Control Statements for exports to identify the jurisdiction of the technology for hardware, technical data, software and services, the authorized countries of destination, intermediaries’ end-users and prohibit re-transfer or diversion without U.S. Government authorization.
  • Prepares and files Electronic Export Information (EEI) with Census and Homeland Security to obtain required International Transaction Numbers (ITN).
  • Track status of all export authorization requests through Government approval and ensure proper record-keeping.
  • Prepare export and import documentation as necessary.
  • Work closely with freight forwarders and customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant shipments.
  • Assist with compliance audits and assessments.
  • Provide guidance to management regarding trade compliance regulations and policies/procedures.
  • Identifies and coordinates with corporate to resolve red flags regarding proposed export or import activities.
  • Run Denied Parties screening for all customers and suppliers upon request.
  • Complete Denied Party screening for buyers and end-users through IDEX PRECISION application.
  • Determines correct classification of goods being imported or exported. Develops and retains audit trails to support the classification assigned and updates classification database system.
  • Updates and distributes import/export related forms and trade-compliance procedures.
  • Responds to daily classification inquiries from customers, vendors, government agencies, customs brokers, and others.
  • Understands acceptable methods of customs valuation and provides guidance to staff on appropriate method(s) to utilize for cost reporting to government agencies.
  • Provides direction on rules of origin for Country of Origin determination, reporting, and product marking.
  • Supports the monitoring, maintenance, and retention of records and documentation for all import/export activities in accordance with federal and corporate regulations.
  • Performs process audits to ensure compliance to all import/export and traffic/logistics related to internal procedures and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates and ensures completion of remediation plans as a result of internal audit, SOX, or other findings, as applicable.
  • Cultivates a culture that assures effective cross functional team work.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior in accordance with company values.
  • Performs job duties in a manner that maintains compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Must have a working knowledge of export and import practices, ITAR, EAR, Office of Foreign Assets Control, and U.S. Customs regulations
  • Ability to multi-task and work across functional lines with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and staff
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment independently and with a team
  • Timeliness and data correctness is required

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $46,800.00 - $70,200.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
