- What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
- It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together
YOUR MISSION
True Anomaly is seeking a Test Software Developer to join our team and work closely with our flight software (FSW) team to develop, implement, and maintain test software for spacecraft systems. In this role, you will be responsible for writing and optimizing test scripts, managing test data, and performing functional testing at both the component and vehicle levels. You will use your expertise in Python, JSON, and modern monitoring tools such as Grafana and Influx to create test frameworks that ensure the successful validation of spacecraft systems, from individual components to complete spacecraft vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain test software using Python to automate testing of spacecraft systems, focusing on functionality, integration, and performance at both the component and vehicle levels.
- Collaborate with the flight software (FSW) team to integrate test scripts with the flight software, ensuring that the software meets both technical and mission-specific requirements.
- Write and manage test scripts to validate hardware and software interactions, ensuring all components and subsystems work as expected in various operational scenarios.
- Work with Grafana and Influx to implement real-time monitoring and visualization of test results, ensuring efficient and accurate data analysis and reporting during functional and integration testing.
- Design and implement automated testing frameworks that can handle complex spacecraft systems, enabling effective and consistent testing across different mission scenarios.
- Work cross-functionally with test leads to define and execute functional tests that ensure all systems, subsystems, and components are validated in line with mission requirements.
- Execute and analyze test results, identifying anomalies, logging issues, and providing clear reports on the results of test campaigns.
- Develop and maintain test data pipelines that collect and store test results in structured formats (e.g., JSON), ensuring data integrity and accessibility for further analysis.
- Implement test scenarios that simulate real-world spacecraft operations, using data-driven approaches to create comprehensive test cases for system validation.
- Optimize test software to improve speed, efficiency, and reliability of testing workflows while ensuring that test scripts remain modular, scalable, and easy to maintain.
- Ensure comprehensive test coverage, from component-level verification to full spacecraft vehicle integration testing, ensuring that every functional aspect of the spacecraft is thoroughly validated.
- Support the debugging and troubleshooting of flight software and hardware, helping the team address functional issues that arise during testing.
- Document and report test results, providing clear, concise, and actionable reports for engineering and leadership teams to support decision-making and design improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3-5+ years of experience in test software development, with a focus on spacecraft or aerospace systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python for developing test scripts and automation frameworks.
- Experience with JSON, for managing and handling structured test data.
- Proficiency with Grafana and InfluxDB, to create real-time monitoring dashboards and store test results for efficient analysis and reporting.
- Experience with flight software (FSW) systems, including integration of test scripts with spacecraft software and understanding of spacecraft mission requirements.
- Strong experience in component and vehicle-level functional testing, ensuring that individual subsystems as well as the full spacecraft vehicle meet mission-specific requirements.
- Solid understanding of test automation principles, including the development of reusable, modular test frameworks and scripts that are scalable and easy to maintain.
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and writing unit tests to validate software behavior and functionality.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, with the ability to diagnose software and hardware issues during testing and propose solutions.
- Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, to manage test software development and maintain a clean development process.
- Ability to document complex test setups, test cases, and test results, ensuring clarity and traceability for future reference.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and provide clear feedback on test results and issues.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 5-7+ years of experience in test software development, with a focus on spacecraft or aerospace systems.
- Experience with spacecraft and avionics systems, including an understanding of flight software and hardware integration.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation tools for continuous integration and deployment.
- Familiarity with other programming languages such as C++ or Java, as well as frameworks for test automation.
- Experience with test management tools, such as Jira, TestRail, or similar platforms for managing test cases and tracking progress.
- Knowledge of spacecraft communication protocols, data interfaces, and test scenarios related to avionics and payload systems.
- Experience with other monitoring and visualization tools, such as Prometheus, Kibana, or similar technologies, for comprehensive test result tracking and visualization.
- Familiarity with space mission lifecycle and spacecraft development processes, including hardware and software verification and validation.
