Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, responsible for managing the central office switches deployed by the company. Specifically responsible for performing or providing support for the following functional areas Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning. Switches may be Constant Bit Rate (CBR)/ Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) or packet based such as Voice Over IP soft switches. Able to resolve the vast majority of telephony network trouble tickets without assistance. Provides troubleshooting assistance to entry level & mid-level switch engineers. Able to direct the trouble shooting efforts during major outages. Provide test call support for deployment activities and maintenances
WHAT OUR TELEPHONE OPERATIONS ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST
- Actively and consistently supporting all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Conducting daily detailed DNHC process for assigned area of responsibility. Managing all telephony equipment under minimal supervision.
- Configuring and troubleshooting SS7, ISUP, SIP unassisted. Assisting and coordinating the efforts of other TOE I/II in configuring and troubleshooting SS7, ISUP, and SIP.
- Following established guidelines for telephone network daily health check procedures and determining call out protocols during outage situations.
- Preparing detailed RCA documentation as a post mortem for critical outages.
- Leading installation and turn up of Trunk Groups and augments as determined by Traffic and Capacity Team.
- Understanding telephony circuit architecture concepts, OC12, OC3, DS3, DS1 etc.
- Createing mops for other TOE for implementation, reviewing and guiding other TOE in mop creation and implementation.
- Assisting with the trouble shooting efforts during major outages.
- Assuming a leadership role during major outages, coordinating not only within the Telephony group but between functional areas.
- Assuming a leadership role in all Residential and Business telephony issues.
- Assuming a leadership role in all Residential and Business telephony issues, coordinating not only within the Telephony group but between functional areas.
- Documenting switch and telephone network architecture.
- Assisting other TOE in documenting switch and telephone network architecture.
- Creating documentation standards and assisting and guiding other TOE in the implementation of the standards.
- Demonstrating IP knowledge, L2, L3, TCP, UDP and telephony equivalents, ability to troubleshoot IP connectivity issues, ability to direct IP connectivity trouble-shooting or CCNA and ability to direct trouble shooting efforts.
- Supporting all core telephony equipment including hardware and software upgrades and maintenance.
- Evaluating and planning for core telephony equipment changes and expansions.
- Guiding and assisting other TOE in maintaining, upgrading and deploying core telephony equipment.
- Assisting in the development of on-going reporting
- Performing other duties as requested by supervisor.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Wireline, Wireless, or Broadband telephony switch installation or administration (5 Years).
Database management and network configuration work experience (5 Years).
Telephone Industry Experience (5 Years). - Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge:
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner.
- Advanced ability to troubleshoot during outage situations
- Advanced knowledge of telephony disciplines (SBC, VoIP Switch, SIP protocol, etc.)
- Ability to effectively work with provider vendors.
- Advanced ability to maintain professional composure and demonstrate critical thinking during stressful or complex projects.
- Ability to use personal computer and software applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of company products and services.
- Firm grasp of common word processing, spreadsheet, Presentation, Design software and concepts.
- Firm grasp of TCP/IP standard applications (Telnet, SSH, FTP, SMTP, HTTP)
- Strong aptitude for learning new things
- Works well in team environment
- Works well supporting cross-functional implementations

The base pay for this position generally is between
$78,900.00 and $139,500.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
