This role requires a high degree of technical skill, strategic thinking, and market insight.You will independently evaluate and manage complex Inland Marine risks, using sound underwriting judgment to drive underwriting profitability. This includes developing broker relationships, creating tailored solutions, and contributing to the broader Inland Marine goals. Your work supports the company’s disciplined underwriting philosophy while helping shape and maintain a healthy book of Inland Marine business.Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate, underwrite, and price complex new and renewal Inland Marine submissions with high premiums or unusual exposures.
- Make sound underwriting decisions supported by detailed risk analysis, pricing models, and historical loss data.
- Negotiate terms and structure coverage that aligns with both client needs and underwriting profitability goals.
- Develop and execute marketing and agency engagement strategies to grow and manage a profitable book of Inland Marine business.
- Cultivate and maintain strong agency, broker, and reinsurer relationships to support new business production and retention.
- Identify and select appropriate risks, with increased autonomy and accountability for underwriting results.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback and participating in special projects or product reviews.
- Ensure underwriting documentation is clear, complete, and audit-ready, reflecting high standards of judgment and communication.
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in insurance, finance, risk management, business or a related field
- Minimum of 7+ years of related experience for consideration
- [OR] equivalent level of education and experience
- Demonstrated underwriting expertise in Inland Marine or other property lines, with deep knowledge of risk selection, pricing tools, and loss modeling.
- Proven ability to make independent underwriting decisions, including sign-off authority on complex risks.
- Strong agency relationship management skills and a track record of business development success.
- High level of organization and attention to detail—documentation clearly conveys underwriting rationale.
- Strong initiative and ownership of results, consistently displaying commitment to underwriting best practices.
- Focused on long-term profitability and portfolio management; able to balance growth with disciplined underwriting.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and represent the Inland Marine line in broader strategic discussions.
