The Technical Project Manager oversees technical projects for vessel performance and safety, collaborating with shipboard teams and external vendors to ensure compliance and sustainability in operations.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Project Manager plays a key role in supporting the reliability, safety, and long-term sustainability of Lindblad Expeditions’ fleet. Working within a collaborative and hands-on operational culture, this role manages technical initiatives that improve vessel performance, modernize onboard systems, and strengthen our ability to deliver world-class expedition experiences. The Technical Project Manager partners closely with shipboard teams, shoreside leadership, and external vendors—including shipyards and superintendents—to deliver projects that meet strict maritime standards while honoring Lindblad’s commitment to responsible travel and environmental stewardship.
This role calls for a resourceful, solutions-oriented leader who is comfortable working across diverse environments—from office settings to shipyard decks—and who can translate technical requirements into actionable plans that support our fleet, our people, and our guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Manage all phases of technical projects that support safe and reliable vessel operations, including scope definition, planning, budgeting, and execution.
- Develop project documentation and success metrics tailored to Lindblad’s fleet operations.
- Partner with shipboard engineers, captains, marine operations, and shoreside departments to align project outcomes with operational needs.
- Coordinate with shipyards, subcontractors, and technical vendors to execute work efficiently and to Lindblad’s quality and sustainability standards.
- Ensure project outcomes meet all regulatory, safety, and class requirements.
- Act as a key contact between shipboard teams and shoreside technical groups, ensuring clear communication and shared understanding of project priorities.
- Collaborate with departments such as Marine Operations, Expedition, Hotel, IT, Compliance, and Purchasing to plan and sequence work with minimal operational disruption.
- Communicate project updates in a clear, concise way suited to Lindblad’s hands-on, field-oriented culture.
- Build strong relationships onboard to ensure solutions reflect the realities of vessel operations in remote environments.
- Apply maritime engineering knowledge to support vessel upgrades, system improvements, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Assist with vendor selection, contract negotiations, and technical procurement in partnership with the Supply Chain and Technical teams.
- Stay informed about evolving maritime technologies and environmental standards that align with Lindblad’s sustainability commitments.
- Support shipboard engineering teams with technical guidance, documentation, and troubleshooting during project execution.
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, reduce environmental impact, and enhance the guest experience through technical solutions.
- Conduct post-project reviews and contribute improvements to Lindblad’s project governance and fleet maintenance processes.
- Bring forward creative, practical solutions suitable for small-ship, often remote operations with tight turnaround windows.
- Support efforts to implement technologies and operational changes that strengthen Lindblad’s leadership in sustainable expedition travel.
- Ensure all technical work complies with USCG, class society, flag state, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate project records, budgets, and schedules in company systems.
- Support audit readiness and documentation required for inspections, regulatory filings, and internal reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of technical documentation and maintenance standards.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on maritime experience).
- 5+ years managing technical or engineering projects, preferably in maritime, expedition, cruise, offshore, or commercial vessel operations.
- Experience working closely with shipboard teams and comfort working in dynamic field environments.
- Knowledge of maritime regulations and class requirements (USCG, ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, flag state).
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and stakeholder expectations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions that work in real-world vessel conditions.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee will also be required to write and type. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move more than 50 pounds, moving items in warehouse.
