JOB OVERVIEW
The Technical Project Manager IV owns the execution engine for Platform Engineering. This is a senior program management role focused on three domains: driving large infrastructure programs to completion, managing vendor and MSP relationships through the full accountability lifecycle, and operating the internal cadence that keeps the organization moving (Kanban ceremonies, Architectural Review Board, portfolio reporting).
This person does not run a single project well. They run three to five concurrent programs well, establish the frameworks that let every other PM in the organization do the same, and hold external vendors accountable to commitments without needing air cover from leadership for routine escalations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Program Delivery
- Own three to five concurrent Platform Engineering programs end to end: charter, plan, execute, close. Programs typically span infrastructure, network, database, and DevOps workstreams.
- Drive programs that cross team boundaries. Most Platform Engineering work touches DevOps, Zero Trust, Engagement Management, DBA, and ITSD simultaneously. Coordination is the job, not an overhead activity.
- Maintain program-level risk registers, decision logs, and status artifacts that executives can read in under five minutes.
- Vendor and MSP Program Management
- Manage the vendor accountability lifecycle: SOW review, delivery tracking, escalation, and post-incident accountability conversations.
- Serve as the day-to-day program interface with strategic partners (MSP, implementation partners, platform vendors). Own the operating rhythm, the deliverable tracking, and the paper trail.
- Drive vendor transitions through contractual closeout, knowledge extraction, and service handoff.
- Internal Operating Cadence
- Run Platform Engineering Kanban ceremonies and the Architectural Review Board. Set agendas, drive decisions to closure, publish outcomes, enforce follow-through.
- Build and maintain the Platform Engineering PM framework: intake, prioritization, status, escalation, and closeout standards that every team uses.
- Identify process drag and fix it. This is a standing responsibility.
- Portfolio Visibility
- Produce the reporting that feeds Platform Engineering staff meetings, quarterly All Hands, and SVP-level business reviews.
- Surface risk early.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ten plus years managing technical programs in infrastructure, platform, or cloud environments. Application delivery PM experience alone does not qualify.
- Demonstrated ownership of large infrastructure programs (virtualization, network, database migration, data center, or equivalent) from initiation through closeout.
- Direct vendor and MSP program management experience, including contract execution oversight, PCR and change order negotiation, and structured accountability conversations with partner leadership.
- Proficiency with Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence as primary execution and documentation tools. Not "familiarity." Proficiency.
- Track record establishing PM frameworks and operating cadences at the organization level, not just the team level.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Smartsheet or equivalent project management software
- Jira or equivalent
Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as requested to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Salary Range: $132,000.00 - $165,000.00 USD
