The Technical Development Manager – Actives & Biofunctionals is responsible for creating and executing the growth strategy for active & biofunctional ingredients across North America including Brenntag-branded raw materials. This role is also responsible for identifying white spaces within the actives portfolio and spearheading conversations with new or existing supplier partners to close these gaps. In addition to creating a go-to-market strategy for active & biofunctional ingredients, the Technical Development Manager will work closely with sales and marketing to uncover additional actives opportunities at new and existing customers. Additionally, this role will act as a technical expert on active & biofunctional ingredients, supporting sales with joint calls and presentations and providing technical support to both internal and external contacts as required. The Technical Development Manager role is critical to Brenntag’s Beauty and Personal Care growth strategy and will require a candidate with a strong executive presence, effective communication skills, and a deep knowledge of the functionality and mechanism of action for active ingredients.
Job Description:
- Implement market plans/projects to increase sales of active ingredients and increase market share in accordance to company goals and objectives.
- Develop, maintain, and review market information relative to actives, by industry trends both domestic and international.
- Provide market and technical support to personal care customers including problem solving, market trend insights, and product recommendations to achieve formulation goals.
- Collaborate with key supplier partners by understanding and driving their actives & biofunctional strategy at Brenntag’s customers, including developing business plans for growth by supplier
- Serve as the technical expert for active ingredients, supporting the sales teams, industry market managers, and formulation scientists across North America.
- Act as a resource for sellers through joint calls and presentations on active ingredients as needed.
- Assist in roll-out of new active ingredients to sales team, providing joint call and technical support for these products
Education and Experience:
- B.S. in biology, biochemistry or related field with knowledge of skin and hair biology
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in active ingredient manufacturing/distribution in the beauty and personal care industry
- Significant experience in selling/promoting active ingredients for personal care
- Technical Sales and/or formulation experience a plus
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
