Learnvia is a new Carnegie Mellon University initiative focused on transforming post-secondary math education through research-driven, AI-enhanced courseware. As part of CMU’s broader efforts in learning science and educational technology, Learnvia collaborates closely with faculty, researchers, and institutional partners to develop innovative, evidence-based learning experiences.
The Technical Generalist role will bridge the gap between technical development and educational content creation while also supporting partners in implementing and optimizing our learning technologies. This dual-role position combines hands-on technical work—such as coding interactive tools, automating processes, and developing dynamic educational content—with customer support and partner engagement. The ideal candidate will have experience in both software development and instructional technology, with a strong ability to collaborate across content and engineering teams. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about creating interactive learning experiences and ensuring seamless technology integration for educators and students.

Core responsibilities include:

Technical Development

  • Work closely with engineers to ensure our platform supports seamless animations, interactive tools, and dynamic content aligned with pedagogical goals.
  • Define technical requirements and collaborate on the development of innovative learning activities.
  • Develop programmatic videos based on detailed specifications from content authors, ensuring clarity and engagement.
  • Write and optimize code for interactive tools, utilizing math graphing technologies to create dynamic student experiences.
  • Automate processes using programming languages and scripting to streamline content development.
  • Utilize SQL and data analytics to generate reports and insights, improving learning outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Train and support content authors in developing effective technical specifications for animations, videos, and interactive media.

Support & Customer Success

  • Provide responsive, in-the-moment support to partners via email, helping them navigate and maximize our tools, technology, and services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with academic partners, advising them on best practices for integrating our tools into their teaching.
  • Assist institutions in implementing learning technologies, including Learning Management System (LMS) and LTI integrations.
  • Consult with faculty on curriculum design and implementation, delivering individual and departmental training sessions.
  • Collaborate with Account Managers and Executives to review customer needs, expansion opportunities, and retention strategies.
  • Identify priority customers and develop engagement strategies to ensure user success and reduce digital churn.

Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. We are in search of a team member who can effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.

You should demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical team members, bridging the gap between engineering and content.
  • Strong adaptability and a quick learning ability for new coding languages and technologies, contributing directly to both content creation and technical development.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and a proactive approach to troubleshooting, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships and understand the needs of instructors, institutions, and learners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and math graphing tools for creating dynamic, engaging learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with customer success, account management, or consultative support in an education technology setting is a plus.
  • Experience with developing interactive educational tools and video content, especially in an ed-tech environment, is beneficial.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful background check
