Position Summary

The Tax Team Manager will manage the day-to-day workflow, delivery, and performance of an assigned U.S. tax team.

This is a hands-on tax operations and people-management role requiring practical knowledge of U.S. individual and

business taxation, along with experience assigning work, reviewing deliverables, monitoring deadlines, coaching team

members, and escalating complex matters appropriately.

The role focuses on managing the existing team and ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent delivery. It is not limited

to preparing tax returns and does not require executive-level ownership of the entire department.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Performance

•Manage, guide, and support tax associates, senior tax professionals, and other assigned team members.

•Set clear expectations for work quality, deadlines, documentation, communication, and accountability.

•Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to identify training needs and improve performance.

•Coordinate with the Delivery & Operations Manager on staffing, performance concerns, and operational

requirements.

2. Workflow & Project Management

•Monitor the status of assigned tax projects from intake and preparation through review, e-filing, delivery, and follow-

up.

•Assign work based on employee capability, workload, complexity, and deadlines.

•Track project status, internal due dates, dependencies, pending client information, and overdue tasks.

•Identify workflow bottlenecks early, redistribute work when required, and escalate deadline risks promptly.

•Ensure tax workflow and project-management systems are kept accurate and up to date.

3. U.S. Business & Individual Tax Operations

•Oversee preparation and review workflows for individual tax returns, primarily Form 1040, and business tax returns

including Forms 1065, 1120S, and 1120.

•Review routine returns or coordinate reviews in line with BFG procedures and the team member’s level of

experience.

•Monitor extensions, estimated tax payments, missing documents, e-filing, and delivery requirements.

•Recognize technical issues that require review or escalation to a CPA Advisor, EA, or senior tax professional.

4. Quality & Compliance Coordination

•Ensure established tax preparation, review, documentation, and quality-control procedures are followed.

•Track review comments and rework items to ensure they are resolved promptly.

•Identify recurring errors and coordinate coaching or process improvements to reduce rework.

•Maintain visibility over federal, state, and internal deadlines and escalate material risks.

5. Tax Planning & Resolution Coordination

•Coordinate the workflow and supporting documentation for tax-planning and tax-resolution engagements.

•Maintain working knowledge of common planning and resolution matters sufficient to identify when specialist input

is needed.

•Ensure cases, client documents, correspondence, deadlines, and follow-up actions are properly tracked.

•Refer complex planning, representation, and resolution matters to appropriately qualified professionals.

6. Process Improvement & Reporting

•Follow and help improve team SOPs, checklists, workflow standards, and documentation practices.

•Monitor team workload, delivery progress, quality issues, and recurring bottlenecks.

•Use tax software, workflow platforms, dashboards, and automation tools to support productivity and control.

•Share regular updates on project status, team capacity, risks, and performance with the Delivery & Operations

Manager.

Required Experience & Skills

•5–8 years of relevant U.S. tax experience.

•At least 2 years of experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating the work of a tax team.

•Practical knowledge of U.S. individual and business taxation, including Forms 1040, 1065, and 1120S; knowledge

of Form 1120 is an advantage.

•Experience reviewing tax returns or coordinating review and rework processes.

•Demonstrated ability to allocate work, monitor deadlines, track workflow, and manage multiple projects

simultaneously.

•Strong communication, organization, coaching, problem-solving, and escalation skills.

•Experience in a tax practice, accounting firm, CPA firm, EA practice, or similar professional-services environment.

•Comfortable using professional tax software and project/workflow management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

•Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, CA/CA Inter, or another relevant accounting/tax qualification.

•Experience with Drake Tax or similar U.S. tax preparation software.

•Experience supporting offshore or distributed teams.

•Exposure to tax planning, tax resolution, or process automation.

Professional credentials are preferred but not mandatory where the candidate demonstrates strong practical U.S. tax

knowledge and effective team-management capabilities.

Critical Competencies

•Team Management: Ability to delegate, coach, support, and hold team members accountable.

•Workflow Management: Ability to track multiple projects, deadlines, dependencies, and priorities.
