Overview:
The Manager, Tax Data Specialist, oversees the Tax Data Specialist organization, ensuring the accuracy and maintenance of customer tax data across all federal, state, local, and territorial jurisdictions. This role is responsible for team performance, compliance with SLA and quality standards, and the execution of proactive tax operations such as account maintenance, tax code setup, and classification reviews. The manager fosters cross-functional collaboration, champions process improvement, and identifies opportunities to enhance efficiency through automation. As a strategic thought partner to leadership, the manager leverages data and reporting to deliver insights and support innovation at scale.
Essential Job Functions:
• Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Tax Data Specialist team organization, including supervisors, leads, and specialists.
• Oversee daily operations related to tax code setup, SUI rate changes, agency correspondence, classification reviews, and proactive case management.
• Monitor and analyze team performance through metrics, QA results, and workload trends; support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and leadership development across all levels of the team.
• Partner cross-functionally with internal teams to streamline workflows, resolve escalations, and drive alignment.
• Create and deliver executive-level reporting and insightful analysis on team performance, customer satisfaction, and operational effectiveness to support strategic decision-making.
• Identify and address process inefficiencies by leading scalable improvements, including automation, and continuously evolving internal processes, documentation, and SOPs. Contribute to strategic planning by providing insights on risks, trends, and operational opportunities to senior leadership.
• Support and optimize post-deployment RPA processes, ensuring automations remain effective and aligned with evolving business needs; identify new automation opportunities within the team’s scope.
• Maintain a positive and collaborative team culture that emphasizes accountability, development, and continuous improvement.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on relationship-building and internal alignment
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management and prioritization skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; familiar with platforms such as Workday, TaxEx, and Salesforce

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of experience in payroll tax or tax data operations
• 2+ years of experience in people leadership or team management
• Experience in a payroll outsourcing or shared services environment preferred
• Experience with reporting, automation, or large-scale operational enhancements
