April is looking for a Tax Compliance and Quality Manager - Temporary who thrives in fast-paced environments, adapts quickly, and embraces challenges in a high-growth startup. In this role, you’ll lead a team of tax return reviewers, develop and implement review processes and quality metrics, and ensure every review meets both accuracy and efficiency goals. This position bridges tax expertise, operations, and leadership to drive accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement. You’ll collaborate closely with service delivery and product teams to share learnings, provide feedback for performance management, improve training, and enhance the tools and resources that support our tax experts.

This leadership role is ideal for someone with deep tax expertise, proven experience building review processes, and a track record of leading quality control teams in high-volume tax practices. • Set tax preparation standards and make final determinations on complex tax positions
  • Monitor and manage SLAs for return review turnaround times
  • Oversee workforce planning and capacity management for the review pipeline
  • Share review findings and trends with service delivery and product teams to improve training, resources, and processes
  • Ensure compliance with IRS and state requirements for practice management, including e-file, signature, due diligence, and document collection/retention

Qualifications

  • Active CPA or EA credential with valid PTIN
  • 5+ years of tax preparation and review experience, including complex individual and business returns
  • 3+ years managing teams of tax professionals in a high-volume practice, ideally in a remote environment with review responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance rules
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and foster a supportive, collaborative culture
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing scalable processes, workflows, and quality standards
  • Hands-on experience conducting and overseeing tax return quality reviews to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
  • Willing to work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends during peak season (January–April)
  • Passion for improving the experience for both customers and tax experts through service and product innovation
  • Self-starter mindset—comfortable with change, learning by doing, and helping shape the future of the tax industry
