Join the American Institutes for Research (AIR) as a Part-time Principal Technical Assistant (TA) Consultant and bring your leadership, subject matter expertise, and strategic insight to advance our mission to generate evidence and apply data-driven solutions that expand opportunities and improve lives for all. The Principal TA Consultant will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop responsive, compelling, and technically sound proposals and lead the design and delivery of complex technical assistance initiatives.

This position has the flexibility to work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and contribute to the development of high-quality, competitive proposals for international development clients, foundations, and multilateral organizations.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to design technically sound and contextually responsive approaches, strategies, and workplans for proposals and ongoing TA efforts.
  • Write and/or review proposal content, including technical narratives, capability statements, and management and staffing plans, ensuring clarity, responsiveness to RFP requirements, and alignment with client priorities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership in one or more key areas of international development.
  • Support relationship-building and partnership development with key clients, partners, and subject matter experts to strengthen AIR’s positioning and expand business opportunities.
  • Contribute to capture planning and strategic planning for new business pursuits, including analyzing market trends and identifying opportunities for growth. 
Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 13 years of experience; or Master’s degree with a minimum of 11 years of experience; or a PhD with a minimum of 7 years of experience in international development.
  • Extensive experience designing and delivering technical assistance in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Experience with programs related to workers’ rights and international labor standards, labor law enforcement, and workforce development.
  • Proven success leading proposal development for international donors.
  • Prior experience with the U.S. Department of Labor or U.S. Department of State preferred.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-country projects and working with varied stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of international development priorities, donor landscapes, and sector-specific best practices.

 Skills:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, particularly in proposal and technical content development.

  • Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to synthesize data and evidence into actionable insights and practical tools.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills across cultural and professional contexts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project management tools.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers the anticipated annual salary as listed. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
