About Revolution Space

At Revolution Space we're building advanced space systems for the 21st century. Every employee at Revolution Space works on projects that are critical to our company’s future by ensuring our products work on orbit every time.

Position Summary:

Revolution Space is looking for a dynamic and growth-oriented Systems Engineer to contribute to the full live cycle development of our space propulsion products from customer requirements through mission operations. This engineer is expected to integrate with the existing technical team to:

  • Interface with customers and define the mission operations concept and product requirements for a variety of spacecraft and missions
  • Lead multidisciplinary technical teams to define space system program architecture and interfaces
  • Serve as the interface between program management and the technical team
  • Create, manage, and verify space system program level requirements
  • Capture and develop open design trades required to integrate our products onto a variety of spacecraft and missions.

Additionally, the engineer is expected to provide cross-disciplinary technical knowledge to program teams and directly contribute to the development of revolutionary electrospray propulsion systems while confirming the integration of complex mechanical, electrical, software, and fluid systems.

The ideal candidate will have a multi-disciplinary background and experience working with space systems in all phases from concept to operations. They will have a balance of breadth across all engineering disciplines, and depth in select areas such as: space systems engineering, propulsion systems, mechanical or electrical design, satellite operations, thermofluids, requirements verification and validation, and data analysis. The candidate will develop interdisciplinary requirements and bridge the gap between hardware and software teams to ensure they are met.

The position is full-time remote and available to be filled immediately.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the overall system architecture, including all components and interfaces.
  • Supporting integration of Revolution Space’s thrusters onto customer spacecraft.
  • Leading technical teams to meet program objectives.
  • Supporting technical business development activities.
  • Interfacing with customers to define requirements and concepts to meet needs.
  • Coordinating with discipline engineers to define and manage technical requirements.
  • Defining system-level requirements, tracking them throughout a program, and ensuring that they are verified through testing.
  • Create and gain approval for requirement deviations and waivers developed with the discipline engineering team.
  • Developing Interface Requirements Documents (IRDs).
  • Coordinating and planning for in-space operations.
  • Serving as a technical point of contact for customers wanting to expand their space mobility capabilities with Revolution Space’s thrusters.
  • Developing Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Propulsion System User Guides.
  • Coordinating with discipline engineers to define open trade studies and follow through mitigation approaches to achieve closure.
  • Coordinate with Systems Engineering team to properly define design and implementation options.
  • Develop understanding of spacecraft electric propulsion constraints and operational needs.
  • Document status of technical challenges and results of trade studies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or related STEM field
  • 15+ years of space systems development experience
  • Knowledge of spacecraft/satellite needs and requirements
  • Knowledge of space industry standards, protocols, and constraints related to flight and ground system development
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong focus on quality and reliability
  • Strong communication and documentation skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering disciplines
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or similar
  • Experience designing and analyzing space systems
  • Previous experience developing flight or ground systems for space
  • Experience with space system test sequences (acceptance, qualification, etc.)
  • Experience with spacecraft/satellite mission planning and/or operations
  • Electric or chemical space propulsion experience

Benefits

  • Paid holidays, sick time and unmetered vacation
  • Excellent health and dental plans with 80% employer contribution
  • 4% company matching 401k with immediate vesting
  • Life insurance
  • Voluntary Long term / Short term disability
