A Day in the LifeAt Medtronic, improving global healthcare is our priority. We're seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to join our Acute Care Monitoring (ACM) business, where you'll be part of a dynamic R&D team focused on creating innovative medical devices. You'll work in a collaborative environment with a startup mentality, contributing to products that address unmet customer needs and improve patient care. 
 
As a Systems Engineer, you'll work under the guidance of Senior System Engineers to learn and apply Systems Engineering methodologies. You'll assist in various aspects of product development, from requirements gathering to integration and testing. This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow your skills in medical device development while contributing to life-changing technologies. 
Location: Boulder, CO - on site

 

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

 

System Requirements: 

  • Assist in defining and developing user needs, use cases, and system requirements 

  • Support the translation of product concepts into practical solutions 

Documentation: 

  • Help create and maintain documentation throughout the development process 

  • Integration and Testing: 

  • Participate in system integration activities and testing procedures 

  • Assist in writing test plans and documenting results 

Collaboration: 

  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate various components 

  • Learn from experienced team members across different engineering disciplines 

Manufacturing Test Development: 

  • Support the development of manufacturing test plans and procedures 

  • Assist in creating test fixtures and automated test scripts 

Troubleshooting: 

  • Help identify and resolve technical issues during development and testing phases 

Regulatory Compliance: 

  • Learn about relevant regulatory standards and guidelines in medical device development 

Risk Management: 

  • Participate in risk assessment activities under supervision 

 

General Tasks:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems.
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

 

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science with 2 years of engineering experience

OR

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Science with 0 years of engineering experience

Nice to Have: 

 

  • Familiarity with medical device development processes 
  • Basic understanding of quality management systems 
  • Experience with requirements management tools 
  • Knowledge of human-centered design principles 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong Attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment 
  • Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$83,200.00 - $124,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
