POSITION SUMMARY:
The Head of Treasury is responsible for, but not limited to managing the capital and liquidity position of the Company. This role works closely with the Board and sub-committees, external advisors along with multiple areas within the company (Risk, Investments, Capital Partners, Finance and the Corporate Actuary). The Head of Treasury will also be (working closely with Risk in) managing the Agency and Regulatory relationships.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ownership of the Capital Allocation Process including: Optimization of the capital structure (debt, equity and 3rd party capital) to provide a low cost, flexible capital model to the businesses that allows for value accretion.
Development and recommendations to the CEO and CFO regarding capital raising and return programs that provides for:
Dividend recommendations;
Share repurchase programs and related economics;
Alternative capital return actions.
Work closely with Finance on the utilization of economic models to analyze business/product returns.
Leads the Company's foreign exchange exposure through derivative contracts and other tools.
Quarterly Board interaction on capital allocation/adequacy utilization against limits (Presents capital allocation decisions for approval).
Maintain banking relationships - both commercial and capital markets for daily operations and capital raising.
Peer Analysis/Comparisons to assess best practices.
Balance Sheet Management including:
Manage Balance Sheet Liquidity through monitoring all sources and uses of liquidity including the forecasting of future sources and uses against designated thresholds to ensure sufficient funds are available to meet cash flow needs;
Define liquidity requirements (reserve needs);
Report liquidity positions quarterly to the Investment and Risk Management Committee.
Work with Investments, Risk and Actuary to monitor duration of assets and liabilities.
Maintain relationship with the Chief Investment Officer and the Corporate Actuary to maintain an understanding of investment strategies and reserve changes against the impact on liquidity.
Managing Agency Relationships including:
Work closely with Risk the annual agency rating process working closely with the Risk and Underwriting Teams;
Maintain strong ongoing relationship with ratings agencies;
Update Agencies prior to any announcements (i.e. earnings, anticipated changes to capital structure, etc.);
Update Governance Committee periodically on agency relationships and communicate any developments.
Provide treasury governance and oversight for reinsurance joint ventures and funds.
Leads global Treasury function, leading broad cross functional collaboration while ensuring appropriate guidance and career development is provided.
Assist in leading senior leadership team and engage on global initiatives and strategic discussions
Monitor resource needs for global organization, ensure staffing levels are appropriate, provide support to the team on a global basis, ensure appropriate work-life balance is achieved and maintained, provide appropriate career development opportunities.
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:
A university degree is required preferably with an emphasis on economics, business, applied mathematics, probabilities and statistics; an advanced degree is advantageous.
CFA or similar qualification/designation.
At least 7 to 10 years financial institutions experience at an internationally recognized investment bank, investment fund, or other entity engaged in investing and/or strategic advisory activity, with senior management experience.
Strong understanding of the capital allocation and liquidity management processes.
Understanding of duration, more specifically the ability to work with the CIO and Corporate
Actuary to understand and set liquidity and investment guidelines.
Strong modelling/analytical skills and ability to reconcile DFA output with GAAP (as it pertains to excess/deficient capital).
Able to lead system design and implementation/integration.
Develops and presents strong business cases for ideas/solutions.
Leads with passion and clarity and builds and communicates clearly defined plans and objectives.
Evaluates and approaches opportunities and problems from a broad, innovative perspective to gain deeper understanding of potential impact to drive better decision-making and outcomes.

Experience assessing internal control structures, financial risks and operational risks.
Experience in communicating at the highest levels within organizations including Investment Risk Management committees and other committees as appropriate.
