Job Description:

As a Supervisor Quality Control, you’ll lead and support Aircraft Inspectors to ensure all maintenance work meets Southwest’s quality standards, approved manuals, and regulatory requirements. You’ll coach, train, and develop Team Members while helping manage daily schedules, inspections, and authorizations. Working closely with Maintenance, Engineering, and the FAA, you’ll review procedures, audit maintenance records, and provide guidance to correct issues and improve maintenance quality. By monitoring work in progress, supporting vendors and maintenance partners, and reinforcing Safety and compliance through the SWA CAMP, you’ll play a vital role in protecting our aircraft, our People, and the Customers who rely on Southwest every day.

  • This role supports all hours of the Southwest Operation, including early mornings, late evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance for the QC Inspector team and the QC department to ensure all work performed is in accordance with approved manuals, including Maintenance Procedures Manual

  • Assist the Manager with department scheduling and assignments of Inspectors

  • Assist other departments within maintenance to correct discrepancies on completed documents and provide feedback to the individuals involved

  • Review and submit inspection procedures and methods which would improve the quality of maintenance

  • Review procedures and work instructions with other departments to determine Quality Control requirements

  • Manage and establish performance standards for inspection personnel and provide examinations and authorization of inspection personnel

  • Ensure Inspectors possess the necessary qualifications for execution of their duties

  • Assist with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) liaison involving Maintenance and Engineering including FAA correspondence and reports

  • Development & implementation of inspection procedures and methods which would improve the quality of maintenance

  • Perform detailed audits of paperwork and Aircraft maintenance procedures

  • Assist in managing the receiving of parts and materials used in the repair, alteration, over haul of SWA aircraft, components and parts

  • Provide technical support and guidance for Southwest Airlines, AEMP, and vendor personnel when requested

  • Monitor in-work performance and compliance of the Southwest Airlines, AEMP, and vendor maintenance, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with approved manual and references including the Southwest Airlines Maintenance Procedures Manual to ensure compliance with the SWA CAMP

  • Interface with SWA engineering during prototype or STC projects

  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Maintenance Procedures Manual, aircraft related documents and manuals, aircraft paperwork procedures such as log page and non-routines, and CFR 121 applicable FAA regulations

  • Ability to effectively communicate and or present issues and solutions to all levels of leadership

  • Ability to read and understand technical documents and their ability to meet intent of the maintenance program

  • Ability to adjust schedules based upon changing priorities

  • Ability to identify the right people for the task and provide on-going coaching to ensure strong Teams

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions

  • Ability to delegate as well as lead multiple tasks simultaneously and follow up through completion

  • Proficient - Manufacture maintenance requirements, FAA Regulations and Regulatory programs, Airworthiness Limitations (AWLS)Proficient - Ability using Microsoft products, multiple computer technologies and Windows based applications

  • Ability to communicate in an effective and flexible manner

  • Ability to lead others without direct positional authority

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Fully functioning broad knowledge in:

    • Transport category maintenance

    • Quality Control experience within the airline industry

Licensing/Certification

  • Required: Airframe and Powerplant license

  • Must be able to obtain a SIDA badge and meet all local airport requirements

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time

  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

  • Must have corrected 20/25 vision in at least one eye and adequate hearing to facilitate inspection process

  • Must be able to work in a confined or cramped space for extended periods of time

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

  • Must be able to travel with some overnight stays, up to 40-60% of the time

  • Ability to obtain a passport for international travel

  • Travel on weekends may be required

  • Must be able to work any shift including Days, Evenings and Graveyards at any time

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary ranges from $145,600 per year to $161,800 per year* depending on qualifications and experience, with opportunity for future pay increases based on performance and market movement. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
