Join us for a hands-on, full-time summer internship experience at our Berthoud, CO location! 
Ursa Major’s Summer 2026 Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the aerospace and defense industry while contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects that support our mission and drive innovation in propulsion and advanced manufacturing. 

The Software Engineering team's mission is to help Ursa Major make better engines faster, and we do that by working with teams across the company to design, build, and operate the best software and data tools in the industry. As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll own an ambitious, but appropriately scoped project, with the goal of bringing a new, highly requested software capability to propulsion test and development engineers by the end of the summer. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with a small, supportive, and cross-functional team of Software Engineers 
  • Support our propulsion test and development teams by developing features in our cutting-edge data processing, automation, and visualization framework 
  • Prototype high quality software while balancing agility and ability to deliver timely value to stakeholders 
  • Implement automated tests to support high-impact, fearless refactoring and ensure smooth, bug-free deployments 
  • Leverage CI/CD, GitOps, and other modern development practices to keep velocity high and toil low 
  • Participate in task planning and estimation alongside experienced mentors 
  • Create clear and concise documentation 

Requirements 

  • Background in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering discipline with strong software coursework 
  • Must be an academic Junior or above by May 2026 
  • Excellent with fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, networking concepts 
  • Hands-on project experience: ability to use git and to deploy software on hardware other than your development machine 
  • Demonstrated teamwork and ability to communicate effectively in a group setting 
  • Drive to continuously improve technical and team skills 
  • Experience with Linux and (Docker) containers is preferred 

Program Details: 

  • Location: On-site at our Berthoud, CO facility 
  • Duration: Approximately 10–12 weeks 
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday 
  • This is a paid internship 

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $29.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs.
