The Principal Account Manager, Academic Physician & Leadership Recruitment serves as a critical liaison between academic clients, recruiters, and internal business development partners. This role supports the delivery of academic physician, APP, and leadership searches by actively managing client relationships, facilitating search execution, and ensuring clear communication, reporting, and accountability across all stakeholders.
This position requires direct academic physician recruitment experience and works closely with academic recruitment leadership to support large, complex academic clients with high search volumes.
Core ResponsibilitiesClient Partnership & Academic Search Management- Serve as a primary client-facing partner for academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, and universities, helping clients navigate the physician and leadership recruitment process.
- Support large, complex accounts with multiple active searches across specialties and leadership levels.
- Actively participate in 5–8 client update and strategy meetings per week, providing:
- Search status updates
- Pipeline and candidate submission reporting
- Market feedback and timeline expectations
- Organize and facilitate client meetings, search calls, and follow-ups, ensuring alignment between client expectations and recruiting execution.
- Function as the key connector between business development, academic recruiters, and clients, ensuring searches move efficiently from contract to close.
- Partner closely with academic physician recruiters to:
- Coordinate search activity
- Track progress and candidate movement
- Address bottlenecks or concerns proactively
- Translate client needs and feedback into actionable guidance for recruiting teams and leadership.
- Provide accurate and timely data reporting on:
- Number of active searches
- Candidate submittals
- Interview activity and search progression
- Support scheduling of client calls, interviews, and recruiter check-ins related to academic searches.
- Maintain detailed documentation and updates within Salesforce CRM and internal systems to ensure transparency and continuity.
- Help strengthen and expand existing academic partnerships by delivering a consistent, professional, and consultative experience.
- Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery or introduce additional recruitment solutions aligned with client needs (e.g., APP or leadership search support).
- Direct experience in physician recruitment is required
- Academic physician recruitment experience is preferred
- Strong understanding of academic medicine environments, including department chairs, deans, faculty leadership, and institutional hiring structures
- Proven ability to manage multiple active searches and clients simultaneously
- Comfortable leading and contributing to frequent client-facing meetings
- Strong organizational, follow-up, and project coordination skills
- Ability to clearly communicate complex recruitment activity to clients and internal stakeholders
- High attention to detail with strong data tracking and reporting capabilities
- Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and recruitment-related systems
- Associate’s Degree with 5–7 years of relevant experience in Academic Physician Recruiting
- High School Diploma/GED with 7–9 years of relevant experience in Academic Physician Recruiting
- Physician recruiting experience (mandatory)
- Academic physician recruitment experience (preferred)
- Client-facing role supporting complex or enterprise-level accounts
- Experience supporting high-volume academic recruitment portfolios
- Prior role functioning as an Account Manager, Engagement Manager, or Client Partner within physician or executive search
- Work is performed in an office/home office environment.
- Team Members must have the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Pay Rate$63,500 - $79,000 SalaryFinal pay rate is dependent on experience, training, education, and location.
