Our mission is to make merchants successful through world class shipping. With our products and solutions, we level the playing field by providing our customers with best-in-class solutions that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them. How we’ll deliver success:

Shippo R&D is seeking a Staff Technical Product Manager to develop and execute a strategic roadmap for our Tracking, Address, and Reconciliation products.

This role is responsible for ensuring our APIs meet the quality bar of shippers everywhere, with a focus on a clean carrier abstraction, complete and accurate data, and real-time updates powered by a scalable, high availability service.

Our address API ensures a high deliverability of packages, and our tracking API makes sure it gets there on time. Our reconciliation service ensures Carriers, Shippo, and Customers are billed and paid quickly and accurately. These are highly technical product areas that share the same foundation:

- Deep knowledge of parcel carrier data

- A customer-centric abstraction of complex carrier concepts

You will be a champion for our shippers and external developers who integrate to our APIs. Your strategy will be driven by customer empathy, business acumen, and a high bar for quality.  You will define success metrics rooted in customer adoption, business impact, and service quality.

You’ll solve real customer problems with big impact. You will make difficult prioritization decisions based on customer and business impact, known variables and unknown assumptions, and awareness of overall company strategy. You will develop a strong strategic view of our suite of API products and how they must change in order to maximize value.

Your teammates will rely on you to keep everyone aligned. You will leverage effective communication skills to align individuals of all levels at Shippo, across carrier partnerships, customer success, strategic partnerships, and our senior leadership team. You will engage deeply with your engineering team to hold a high quality bar for our products, identify the biggest opportunities to improve our service quality, and trade those opportunities off effectively against customer and carrier feature requests.

Shipping & handling responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple engineering teams to develop enhancements to our tracking, address, and reconciliation products, and deliver with quality.
  • In partnership with engineering, create and grow a clear abstraction of carrier capabilities.
  • Research API customers’ pain points and shipping strategies, and classify how our product does or does not meet their needs.
  • Continuously publish research, including competitor announcements, market analysis and trends.
  • Develop a long term roadmap for your core product areas backed by the research above.
  • Collaborate with other product and engineering teams to build high quality, scalable solutions.
  • Ensure our reconciliation service captures 100% of carrier invoices for Shippo and extend that capability to our customers.
  • Understand and own the shipping domain. Empathize deeply with merchants to understand their challenges.  Model out how merchants are shipping goods to consumers. Contextualize those insights to determine the most important problems worth solving.
  • Understand how we offer our services as a SaaS platform. Empathize deeply with developers to understand their integration challenges. Contextualize those insights to determine the most important problems worth solving.
  • Review and prioritize new capabilities as they become available from carriers, and understand tradeoffs and limitations of how those capabilities could mesh with existing product experience
  • Support the engineering team during incidents to confirm what are expected and unexpected product behaviors
  • Support the organization in designing the customer experience and impact around feature releases
  • Build customer-level and carrier-level insights and analytics off historic data to drive internal awareness of value and future prioritization

Do you tick the boxes?

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience, with a strong emphasis on technical platforms.
