The role involves leading backend projects for a communication platform, optimizing performance and reliability, and mentoring team members.
Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
Our group is responsible for communications between Block and its customers. We aim to ensure that all of Square and CashApp teams are able to reach their customers when they need to, providing tier-0 transactional and marketing messages to the right person at the right time in the right place. We send billions of SMS, email, and in-app and push notifications, and we need to do so quickly and reliably.
We are looking for a Staff Engineer to work on these backend platforms, pushing us further down the road of performance and reliability. The role involves working with multiple in-house teams, establishing relationships with trusted vendors, and pushing our technical strategy to the next level. You'll drive projects that span across the whole company, implement key technologies and features, and mentor other talent along the way.
