  Position Summary

Antora is seeking a Staff / Principal, Interconnection & Grid Engineering to lead the technical execution of generation interconnection processes for Antora's thermal energy storage projects across multiple RTOs/ISOs (MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and others as the portfolio expands). This is a hands-on role: the person in this seat will own interconnection applications and studies end to end, direct the consultants who perform detailed modeling work, and bring independent technical judgment to configuration, sizing, and de-risking decisions long before a project reaches a formal queue.

The ideal candidate combines deep power systems engineering fundamentals (one-line diagrams, load flow, short circuit, stability, and dynamic modeling) with practical fluency in how interconnection actually works inside each RTO/ISO — the paperwork, the study milestones, the informal norms, and the levers available to move a project faster or cheaper. This role partners closely with Antora's transmission strategy, project development, and policy teams, and is central to translating a proposed project site into a technically sound, de-risked interconnected project.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Interconnection Process Leadership

    • Lead and manage the end-to-end interconnection process for Antora projects across MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and other RTOs/ISOs as needed, including application preparation, queue entry, and milestone tracking through each required study phase.
    • Serve as Antora's primary technical point of contact with RTO/ISO interconnection staff, transmission owners, and utilities on study scope, assumptions, and results.
    • Navigate the distinct interconnection rules, tariffs, cluster study cycles, and procedural requirements unique to each RTO/ISO, and translate those differences into practical guidance for internal teams.
    • Track and manage financial postings, security deposits, milestone deliverables, and agreement obligations (e.g., GIA/LGIA/ISA) across the interconnection portfolio.

    Technical Studies & Engineering

    • Develop and maintain single-line diagrams (SLDs) for proposed interconnection configurations, from early feasibility concepts through formal application submittals.
    • Run and/or critically review stability, dynamic, load flow, and short-circuit studies to evaluate system impacts of proposed interconnections and to stress-test third-party study results.
    • Evaluate sizing and configuration options (e.g., point of interconnection, voltage level, equipment arrangement) to identify the optimal technical and commercial path for each project.
    • Interpret utility and RTO study results (system impact studies, facilities studies, deliverability analyses) and translate findings into clear implications for cost, schedule, and project viability.

    Consultant & Vendor Management

    • Direct and manage external engineering consultants performing interconnection studies, modeling, and SLD development, ensuring technical rigor, schedule adherence, and cost discipline.
    • Scope consultant engagements, review deliverables for quality and completeness, and hold vendors accountable to Antora's technical standards.

    Early-Stage De-Risking

    • Partner with site selection and project development teams to assess interconnection feasibility and technical risk before sites are committed, using hosting capacity data, prior study history, and engineering judgment.
    • Identify and flag interconnection risks (e.g., restudy exposure, network upgrade cost drivers, deliverability constraints) early enough to influence site selection, project sequencing, and commercial terms.
    • Build and maintain repeatable frameworks, checklists, and tools to standardize how Antora screens and de-risks new interconnection opportunities across RTOs.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with the transmission strategy, project development, policy, and commercial teams to align interconnection execution with broader tariff and siting strategy.
    • Communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to non-technical internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
 Key Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in power systems engineering, interconnection studies, or transmission planning, with direct experience managing interconnection applications through one or more RTOs/ISOs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing single-line diagrams and running or critically reviewing load flow, short-circuit, stability, and dynamic studies.
  • Working knowledge of commercial power system modeling tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, PSCAD, ASPEN, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of FERC, NERC, and RTO/ISO interconnection processes, tariffs, and cluster study frameworks, with direct experience in at least one of MISO, SPP, or ERCOT.
  • Experience managing or directing external engineering consultants on technical deliverables.
  • Proven ability to independently evaluate interconnection configuration and sizing tradeoffs and make sound technical recommendations under ambiguity.
  • Experience interconnecting storage, generation, or large flexible loads, particularly co-located or hybrid configurations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear risk and decision guidance for cross-functional and executive audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus) or related field.
 Additional Qualifications Desired
  • Experience across multiple RTOs/ISOs (e.g., MISO, SPP, ERCOT, PJM, CAISO).
  • Prior experience working directly for an RTO/ISO, transmission owner, or utility transmission planning group.
  • Familiarity with network upgrade cost allocation methodologies and deliverability/capacity accreditation frameworks.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Coding proficiency (e.g., Python) for study automation, data analysis, or power system tool APIs.
