THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Staff Infrastructure Engineer to play a central role in the future of our infrastructure and developer platform services. You will join the Platform & Services group working closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver high quality and scalable solutions for building and delivering technology products at Sotheby's. In this role you will be a technical driver, mentor, and hands-on contributor helping shape our architecture and technology stack.

You have a passion for building practical, reusable, and resilient solutions for other engineers, and wish to tackle hard product and engineering challenges working in concert with smart people. You have the ability to take on complex problems, learn quickly, iterate, and persist towards a good solution. You are customer-focused and passionate about delivering tools that will delight and empower your peers.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, optimize, and maintain a platform that enables other engineers and product teams to work faster and more efficiently
  • Design elegant abstractions, useable and practical tools, and robust APIs
  • Work closely with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders across the company
  • Communicate persuasively with peers to inspire cooperation and collaboration
  • Mentor, pair, and delegate work to encourage the growth of others
  • Make well-reasoned decisions that inspire and energize others
  • Provide technical leadership so that others can contribute confidently
  • Help recruit, interview, and generally make Sotheby’s a great home for developers

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering building platforms, infrastructure, and deployment and infrastructure tooling
  • Experience with one or more programming languages including but not limited to: Go, Node.js, Python, Scala, or Java
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with build and deployment tooling (Bazel, Github Actions, Pants, Spinnaker)
  • Experience with automation tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Experience with relational database systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Exposure to microservices architecture and observability (Kubernetes, Docker, service meshes, distributed systems, tracing)
  • Exposure to event streaming platforms (such as Kafka and Kinesis)
