Summary
As a Staff Engineer at Cloud Campaign, you will be a pivotal technical leader, instrumental in defining and owning sections of the technical roadmap and directly shaping the future direction of our products. You will drive the complete code lifecycle, from initial ideation to deployment, for new features that deliver significant value to our users and internal teams. This role demands a hands-on approach to contributing to the codebase, ensuring high standards of quality and best practices are met. You will also be a champion for continuous improvement, leading the technical design of complex, scalable systems, advocating for robust testing strategies, and influencing technical decisions across teams. Additionally, you will provide critical mentorship and guidance to other engineers, fostering their growth and empowering them to take on greater ownership. This position requires strong system-level thinking, cloud development expertise, and a customer-focused, problem-solving, and collaborative mindset.
What You'll Do
- Define and Own Technical Roadmap: Define and own part of the technical roadmap, guiding technology and architecture decisions to ensure long-term company success as we enter our next stage of growth. You will be a key technical leader in shaping the future direction of our products.
- Establish Standards: Lead the architecture and implementation of scalable AI-enabled services where appropriate and establish engineering standards for AI-assisted development, including code quality, testing, and security.
- Direct Team Contribution: As a hands-on technical leader on a small, dedicated agile team, you will contribute directly to the codebase, taking on planned work while setting a high bar for best practices and quality delivery.
- Innovate and Deliver: Drive the full code lifecycle from ideation and architectural design to development, quality assurance, and ongoing maintenance for new features that enhance our product.
- Impact-Driven Development: Translate product roadmap initiatives into shipped features, continuously identifying and proposing new, innovative solutions that directly benefit our users.
- Collaborate and Connect: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management and engineering leadership, to maintain a tight feedback loop and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Wear Many Hats: As a part of a small, fast moving startup, regularly step outside your primary area of expertise to solve highest-priority problems and contribute wherever the team needs you most.
- Cultivate Growth: Proactively identify opportunities for technical improvement, contribute to a culture of continuous learning, and foster a growth mindset within the team.
- Champion Quality: Drive improvements in code quality, security, and performance across the team, advocating for best practices and expanding automated testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end). This level of impact also includes setting standards and practices.
- Own the Outcome: Take end-to-end ownership of the systems you build and operate with a founder’s mindset. Thrive in ambiguity by creating clarity, making sound technical decisions, and moving initiatives forward with minimal oversight.
- Architect and Scale: Lead the technical design and implementation of complex, scalable systems, contributing to architectural decisions and guiding the evolution of our platform towards distributed and cloud-native solutions.
- Mentor and Elevate: Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and guidance to other engineers, fostering their development and empowering them to take on greater ownership.
What You Bring
- Technical Skills: 7+ years of fullstack engineering experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in both backend and frontend technologies, with proficiency in Java, Python, Go, React, and TypeScript. Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, data structures, and algorithms complemented by strong data modeling skills in both relational and non-relational databases.
- AI Skills: Proficiency using AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., Claude Code) to improve engineering productivity while maintaining code quality and security
- System-Level Thinking and Vision: Proven ability to think holistically about complex systems, anticipate future technical challenges, and translate long-term technical vision into actionable plans that align with business goals.
- Cloud Experience: Modern cloud development and deployment of SaaS systems on major cloud platforms (AWS preferred), including dynamic environments, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform), and observability best practices (structured logging, metrics, alerting).
- Growth Mindset & Technical Curiosity: A strong desire to learn, adapt, and continuously improve your technical skills in a fast-paced, cloud-based, full-stack environment. You're an impact-driven problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and a solutions-oriented approach.
- Customer Focus: Motivated by delivering exceptional value to both internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) and strong ownership, with an aptitude for collaborative problem-solving within a team setting.
- Quality and Testing Advocate: A solid understanding of the testing pyramid and extensive experience expanding automated test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end, performance), approach, and tooling across a team.
- Mentorship and Technical Leadership: A proven ability for guiding and technically leading other engineers. You actively share knowledge, empower others to solve complex problems, and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Naturally take ownership instead of waiting for direction.
- Driving Standards and Best Practices: A track record of initiating, advocating for, and successfully implementing engineering standards, best practices, and processes across teams or the organization (e.g., code review standards, documentation practices, security protocols), with a focus on risk assessment and mitigation.
- Cross-Functional Technical Influence: Ability to technically influence product, design, and other engineering teams to align on technical approaches and solutions, effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Proactive identification and mitigation of architectural, performance, and security-related technical risks, with a focus on anticipating potential issues and planning for their resolution.
- Simplification of Complexity: Demonstrated ability to simplify complex technical concepts for others, making intricate systems understandable and actionable for a wider audience.
- Continuous Growth Mindset: A strong desire to learn, adapt, and continuously improve technical skills in a fast-paced, cloud-based environment. You're an impact-driven problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and a solutions-oriented approach.
