Position Overview:

Join Micron Technology as a Staff Firmware Test Engineer validating advanced algorithms in SSDs.

You will join the Firmware Test Engineering (FTE) team, dedicated to validating the functionality of new high-performance mass storage SSD controllers. The FTE team ensures that the firmware meets design, functionality, reliability, and performance requirements for enterprise SSDs. Collaboration with engineering project management, fellow firmware test engineers, firmware/test developers, other validation teams, and system hardware design engineers is vital to resolving multifaceted design issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Build a comprehensive firmware verification plan for various Flash Translation Layer algorithms and protocols used in enterprise SSDs.
  • Possess knowledge of NAND management algorithms, SSD Front End, Security, and Back End algorithms.
  • Develop testing methods oriented towards known, open system, closed system, and unknown strategies to verify and validate firmware products.
  • Analyze failures from weekly regressions and determine root causes, bringing to bear SSD domain expertise.
  • Lead test development, execution, automation, and reporting.
  • Communicate challenges, solutions, and mitigation plans to various teams and management with outstanding clarity.
  • Participate in code reviews and guide the team for comprehensive coverage and efficient architecture.
  • Establish working relationships with firmware development engineers to improve code quality.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum bachelor’s or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in SSD firmware testing and/or development.
  • 7+ years of experience in the SSD or NAND Flash development industry.
  • Proficiency in Python or C/C++ for code development.
  • Deep understanding of Flash Translation Layer algorithms.
  • Knowledge of storage industry protocols such as PCIe, NVMe, ONFI, USB, etc.
  • Familiarity with Agile development, GIT development flow, branch management, and tools.
  • Strong understanding of test automation, testing methodologies, and test tools.
  • Familiarity with automated build, continuous integration, and test automation systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in relevant fields.

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is:

$129,000.00 - $219,500.00

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.  The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries of the position across all US locations.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training.  The pay scale is subject to change depending on business needs.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Additional compensation may include benefits, discretionary bonuses and equity.
