About the company

Our client is a wellness and fitness company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead the design and delivery of production AI capabilities for a consumer product, owning each feature from first prototype through release and continued refinement. The role suits a self-directed engineer who thrives in a rapidly changing, early-stage setting and partners with cross-functional colleagues.

What you'll do

- Build and ship LLM-powered agents that call external tools, return structured results and stream responses to users.

- Develop AI-driven features that deliver personalized guidance, with a person always reviewing the output.

- Own each capability end to end: prototype, assess it against quality and safety standards, release it, watch its behavior in production and keep improving it.

- Raise reliability and speed while lowering cost through caching, token management, retry handling and monitoring.

- Create the integrations and supporting utilities that agents depend on, with validated inputs and outputs.

- Work side by side with product, design, mobile and server-side colleagues.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Track record at Staff Engineer level or higher.

- Hands-on experience operating large language models in live products, including prompt design, tool use, formatted outputs and quality assessment.

- Familiarity with frameworks for orchestrating AI agents.

- Proven history of shipping and running Python services in production.

- Time spent in a fast-moving startup, or as a founder, including ventures that did not succeed.

- High energy and a strong drive to take action.

- Comfort with candid, real-time feedback in both directions.

- Ability to work remotely during US time zones.

Bonus points

- Prior experience at a large technology company or a late-stage startup before joining smaller companies.

- Working knowledge of asynchronous programming and real-time data delivery over web APIs.

- Background in health technology.

- Based in San Francisco, CA.
