Position Summary
Squishable.com, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This role provides oversight and support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes, which are primarily handled by our third-party accounting team. The Staff Accountant will lead key areas of the monthly close process, support financial reporting and cash flow planning, manage subsidiary accounting, and assist in audit and compliance.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of accounting principles, experience with international subsidiaries and foreign exchange, and the ability to partner across departments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversight & Support of Third-Party Accounting Services
- Provide review and oversight of AP, AR, and accounting entries processed by third-party accounting support.
- Ensure timely resolution of discrepancies and accuracy of transactions.
- Review vendor and customer aging reports, vendor statements, and payroll liabilities.
- Assist in vendor, rent, and utility management for all locations, including coordination of store openings and closures.
Month-End Close & General Accounting
- Process bi-weekly payroll, related JE’s, and benefit remittance to 3rd parties (e.g. 401K, HSA)
- Lead monthly close tasks including preparation of reclass and accrual journal entries.
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts (e.g., cash, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, payroll liabilities, merchant clearing, and credit cards).
- Review and support standard expense accruals and reconciliation of incurred-but-not-received services.
- Prepare and maintain schedules to support internal reporting and external audit.
- Support preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and variance analysis.
- Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions; maintain accurate supporting documentation and ensure ongoing compliance with state and local tax regulations.
Cash Flow & Forecasting
- Assist the Director of Finance with weekly and monthly cash flow analysis.
- Provide input for short- and long-term forecasting by identifying timing of liabilities and expected receipts.
- Prepare weekly cash flow and payables run planning.
International & Intercompany Accounting
- Manage accounting for European and UK subsidiaries, including intercompany transactions and eliminations.
- Reconcile foreign currency transactions and perform FX revaluation entries.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing agreements and coordination with local statutory requirements.
Cross-Functional & Administrative Duties
- Collaborate with other departments on financial policies and process improvements.
- Assist with audit requests and ensure completeness of supporting documentation.
- Respond to internal inquiries and provide financial insight to operational teams.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with demonstrated ownership of core accounting functions.
- Experience with foreign exchange and international accounting preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of NetSuite or comparable ERP systems.
- Experience in retail, inventory management, logistics, or warehouse environments preferred.
- Advanced Excel and G Suite proficiency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Work Schedule: Fully remote
- Salary: $75,000 - $85,000
