Compensation Pay Range:
$110,000.00 - $165,000.00The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation includes annual, quarterly performance, or premiums may be paid in amounts ranging per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
A Senior Systems Engineer – Data Center Networking is a highly skilled infrastructure expert with deep experience in designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise data center network environments. This individual works with a high degree of independence to lead the architecture, implementation, and lifecycle management of complex networking systems that support mission-critical operations. Focused on physical and virtual infrastructure, the Senior Systems Engineer ensures the performance, security, and scalability of hybrid environments spanning on-prem data centers and cloud platforms. This role emphasizes the consistent application of data center networking best practices, network automation, and system-level integration with modern infrastructure technologies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSStay current with emerging infrastructure technologies, security threats, and industry standards, particularly those impacting hybrid data center environments
Provide mentorship and training to system administrators and junior engineers on best practices for network and infrastructure implementation
Collaborate with architects and leadership to help define and implement standards around network, system, and infrastructure security
Take a leadership role in data center projects from planning through implementation and support
Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade systems and networks with an emphasis on performance, security, and scalability
Own and manage multiple mission-critical systems and data center components (physical and virtual)
Lead multiple projects concurrently, leveraging project management best practices and cross-functional coordination
Conduct system and network performance assessments and ensure alignment with business goals and security regulations (e.g., PCI, SOX)
Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues spanning across systems, networks, and applications
Create detailed system and network documentation and lead knowledge transfer sessions across IT teams
Automate infrastructure management tasks using scripting languages and configuration management tools
Perform regular capacity planning and health checks of systems and network environments
Participate in or lead incident response and root cause analysis efforts for major outages or security events
Provide technical leadership in the integration of on-prem systems with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
Test, validate, and document system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes to minimize downtime and risk
Required:
Extensive hands-on experience with data center networking, including switching, routing, load balancing, and hardware installations
Deep experience with Cisco networking (CCNP or equivalent experience preferred)
Familiarity with other vendors such as Arista and Juniper; comfortable working across multi-vendor environments
Expertise in routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) and network segmentation
Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and hybrid environment integration
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across networking and system platforms
Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible)
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and broad infrastructure ownership
Desired:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technology field
Certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, AWS/Azure networking certifications, or equivalent
Experience designing spine-leaf architectures or working in SDN environments
Advanced knowledge of IT service management, security compliance, and infrastructure governance
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong leadership and project coordination abilities
Demonstrated ability to mentor others and influence positive change across teams
