This role integrates Health Physics, Radiation Safety, Quality Compliance, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to support safe, compliant radiopharmaceutical manufacturing operations. The Senior Specialist serves as a primary technical contributor with a Health Physics emphasis, ensuring radiation safety, radioactive material management, and waste program ownership while also supporting key EHS programs. The role emphasizes training, procedure development, waste stream ownership, and operational risk reduction in alignment with ALARA principles and applicable regulatory requirements.

Health Physics
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Radiation Safety and Health Physics–related activities, supporting the site Radiation Safety Program.

  • Apply ALARA principles to evaluate radiological hazards, work practices, and process changes.
  • Conduct radiation safety impact assessments for new or modified processes and equipment.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency and confidence in the use of radiation detection and monitoring instrumentation.
  • Participate in investigations and response activities related to radiological incidents, abnormal events, or emergencies.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions related to radiation safety and waste programs.
Environmental Health & Safety Programs
  • Support operation-specific EHS hazard assessments and development of risk mitigation plans.
  • Assist with occupational injury/illness investigations, notifications, and corrective action development.
  • Support the Contractor Management Program including onboarding new contractors and vendors, reviewing JHS/PTPs, and providing safety support for routine and non-routine site projects.
  • Implement and support safety programs for the site to include contractor safety management, LOTO, electrical safety, confined safety, machine guarding, and fall protection.
  • Assist with the occupational injury/illness investigation, notifications, and corrective action development.
  • Serve as the site point person for waste management programs, including waste characterization, segregation, labeling, storage, documentation, and coordination with approved vendors.
  • Participate in internal and external EHS audits and inspections.
  • Contribute EHS performance metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establishes and leads the site safety committee.
Training, Competency & Procedure Development
  • Serve as a primary trainer for EHS programs and some Radiation Safety.
  • Deliver and maintain training content to support regulatory compliance and operational competency.
  • Provide hands-on training and coaching for employees, supervisors, and contractors as applicable.
  • Act as a co-contributor in the development, review, and revision of SOPs and work instructions related to radiation safety, waste handling, and EHS programs.
  • Ensure procedures and training materials accurately reflect current operations and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
  • Degree preferred in Health Physics, Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Health Physics, EHS, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
  • 2+ years of radioactive material handling experience a plus.
  • Experience owning or managing waste programs (radioactive, hazardous, universal).
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations (NRC, DOT, OSHA, EPA, RCRA).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated training experience.
  • Analytical, organized, and capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Work Environment

The role operates within office, laboratory, production, and radiopharmaceutical manufacturing environments. Operations are conducted under controlled conditions regulated by state and federal agencies. Personnel receive role-specific radiation safety training and are routinely monitored for exposure. Noise levels range from low to moderate.

Anticipated salary range: $63,800.00-$82,260.00
