The Software Engineer builds and ships new features for AI-assisted ultrasound imaging. This role develops cross-platform software that runs primarily on iOS and Android, with some opportunity to contribute to Windows. This role also blends strong software engineering fundamentals with real-world product delivery in a regulated, hardware-adjacent environment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain cross-platform C++ features powering AI-assisted ultrasound workflows.
  • Build and enhance user-facing functionality using Qt within our plugin interface for ultrasound users.
  • Partner closely with design and product counterparts to shape technical solutions, provide feasibility input, and recommend implementation-friendly interaction patterns.
  • Deliver performant, reliable software for iOS and Android (primary), with occasional contributions to Windows platform development.
  • Debug and resolve complex issues across devices, OS versions, and hardware configurations; provide clear root-cause analysis and drive fixes through completion.
  • Write and maintain clean, testable, well-documented code; actively contribute to code reviews, engineering standards, and development best practices.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems across the stack, from application logic through platform integration, and help improve overall system reliability and maintainability.
  • Contribute technical input to architecture, implementation planning, and tradeoff discussions for new features and workflows.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers through collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong modern C++ expertise (C++11+).
  • Proven success delivering complex cross-platform software products, including experience on mobile platforms such as iOS and Android.
  • Strong debugging skills across performance, memory, concurrency, device/OS behaviors, and integration issues.
  • Experience building complex, high-reliability, high-quality software systems.
  • Experience developing software with user-facing workflows and modular or plugin-based architectures.
  • Ability to work independently on substantial features and drive work from design through delivery.
  • Clear communicator able to explain technical tradeoffs to both engineers and non-engineers.
  • Detail-oriented with a track record of building reliable, maintainable systems.
  • Familiarity with iOS/Android toolchains and platform integration, including profiling, performance tuning, and device debugging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the medical device or medical hardware industry; familiarity with regulated environments is a plus.
  • Experience with imaging systems, image processing pipelines, or real-time / near-real-time software constraints.
  • Experience with Qt and cross-platform UI development.
  • Experience integrating and/or optimizing ML model performance, including one or more of: PyTorch, TensorFlow, or ONNX.
  • Experience building high-quality human-device interactions, including low-latency or highly interactive workflows; background in game engines, real-time interactive systems, robotics, AR/VR, or related domains is a plus.
  • Familiarity with 3D graphics, visualization, animation, or simulation systems.
  • Experience working with hardware users in testing, lab, clinical, or other applied environments.
  • Experience with Windows platform development.

We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $117,600.00-$176,400.00 Annual. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). GE HealthCare offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, and tuition reimbursement.
