Position Summary:
As a Senior AI Backend Engineer (aka Sr. Software Engineer I - AI), you'll join a dynamic and collaborative team dedicated to pioneering AI infrastructure at Pax8. This role places you at the heart of cutting-edge research and development, where you'll leverage generative AI, MCP servers, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks to create impactful solutions. Your work will empower other business and technical teams custom applications, drive full automation, and embed AI across various applications, enhancing our capabilities and driving innovation.
Every day, you'll dive into the world of AI and backend engineering, building and refining AI tools and applications. You'll work with Python and JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) to develop tools for AI agents. Collaboration will be key as you engage with other business teams to implement AI solutions. You'll also explore greenfield projects, architect AI systems, and work with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform on a cloud environment (Azure, AWS). Your research-oriented mindset will drive you to push boundaries and develop innovative solutions in a supportive and collaborative environment.
To thrive in this role, you must have a strong background in backend development and AI, with experience in Python and JVM languages. Proficiency in microservices and data-heavy application development is essential, and familiarity with AWS or Microsoft Azure and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform is a plus. You should be adept at working in a research-heavy environment, with a knack for greenfield development and a passion for exploring new technologies. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are crucial, as you'll work closely with various teams to develop and implement AI solutions. Your ability to navigate complex technical challenges and contribute to groundbreaking AI research will be key to your success. Essential Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software.
- Participate in team meetings including grooming sessions, project planning, and other aspects of the agile development lifecycle.
- Help level up the team through mentorship and design techniques.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:
- At least five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant software development experience.
- Ability to show advanced proficiency of a relevant programming language (Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, Go, and/or Python).
- Effective technical leadership abilities.
- Advanced experience with one or more of the following languages: Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, Go and/or Python.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with innovative application design and implementation.
- Effective problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to step up to address difficult issues, saying what needs to be said.
- Ability to develop people to meet both their career goals and the organization’s goals.
- Ability to operate effectively, even when things are not certain, or the way forward is not clear.
- Ability to make sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
- Ability to actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development challenges.
Required Education & Certifications:
- B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience.
- Qualified candidates can expect a salary range of $135,000-$170,000 or more depending on experience
