The Impact of Software Asset Management (SAM) at Coupa:
Software Asset Management is a critical pillar of our financial governance, ensuring that every dollar invested in our third-party software and SaaS portfolio delivers maximum value. As a Senior Software Asset Management Analyst, you will be the primary architect of our SAM framework, driving a culture of cost-consciousness and operational excellence. You will not only manage our centralized software inventory but also mature the program to eliminate waste, ensure absolute license compliance, and establish Coupa as a leader in strategic vendor governance.
What You’ll Do
- Inventory Governance & Optimization:
- Govern the centralized inventory of all global software assets, licenses, and subscriptions, serving as the single source of truth for the entire organization.
- Identify and eliminate software waste by analyzing granular usage data and right-sizing agreements to align with actual business needs.
- Mandate comprehensive utilization reviews for all top-tier vendor renewals, ensuring every contract is optimized for cost-effectiveness before execution.
- Predictive Financial Planning:
- Orchestrate a master renewal calendar providing a 12-month forward view of all global contract milestones to eliminate last-minute renewal risks.
- Develop sophisticated forecasting models that integrate historical spend, utilization trends, and future business drivers to provide budget predictability.
- Architect software showback models to attribute costs clearly across product verticals, fostering absolute financial accountability within engineering teams.
- Strategic Procurement & AI Transformation:
- Leverage AI and automation to transform SAM from a transactional function to a predictive one, using advanced tools to scan contracts and flag price increases or non-standard risks.
- Partner with Procurement and Finance during major vendor negotiations, providing the data-driven narrative and benchmarks needed to secure world-class terms.
- Establish a proactive vendor management practice, tiering suppliers into strategic categories and leading Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to drive long-term value alignment.
What You’ll Bring to Coupa
- 5-7+ years of progressive experience in software asset management, IT procurement, or a related financial governance field within a high-growth SaaS environment.
- Proven track record of successfully managing multi-million dollar software portfolios and leading complex, data-driven optimization initiatives.
- Master-level skills in data analytics (Excel, Tableau, Power BI) to translate massive datasets into actionable strategic recommendations.
- Deep understanding of software licensing models across major publishers like Microsoft and SaaS-based providers.
- Exceptional executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence leadership and drive consensus across diverse global teams.
- A proactive and autonomous mindset, capable of navigating ambiguity and transforming manual processes into automated, scalable workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally with Procurement, Engineering, Legal, and Finance to ensure compliance and financial stability.
- Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) or similar professional certification.
- Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and Agile methodologies.
- Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Gemini) to streamline operational reporting and contract analysis.
