The Role

JOB SCOPE
We are currently looking for a Sr. Site Reliability Engineer to join our (OaaS) Observability as a Service - CIE and Automation team. Focusing on design, deployment and support of observability, automation and orchestration applications and platforms providing monitoring, metrics, tracing and logging services and solutions for the Network Operations organization.
Key areas of focus are design, deployment, automation, and support of custom solutions using Open Source and Vendor Licensed platforms such as Grafana, Elastic/Logstash/MIMIR, Influx, Ansible Jenkins, Swimlane, OP5, DataDog etc., in a tenanted enterprise environment, on high availability containerized (private and public cloud) architectures.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Senior SRE is a key team member leveraging their proven experience, expertise, and communications skills to rapidly delivery Observability solutions to Charter's Network Operation organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Support the Observability vision by design and development of observability services on containerized platforms.
  • Design, implement and maintain complex data collection, data transformation, data visualization and observability platforms at Enterprise scale to be used by internal operations and leadership teams.
  • Perform implementation of software and automation solutions to improve reliability and observability.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve system and service-related issues on containerized platforms.
  • Operate in an on-call environment.
  • Integrate platforms with a wide variety of data sources and repositories that use various protocols.
  • Actively and collaboratively engage in team Agile Dev Ops processes and ceremonies.
  • Leverage CI/CD workflows and automation tools and techniques to identify and address operational and service level issues.
  • Provide regular KPI and metrics data on platform health and governance for leadership consumption.
  • Leverage automation and scripting for daily tasks, reporting, monitoring, data collection, data analysis and break/fix actions.
  • Write highly detailed procedures and technical documentation to be referenced by technical peers and senior leadership in a knowledge base.
  • Work in a team environment and work effectively with people with diverse technical skills and backgrounds.
  • Work with the team to support, improve performance and architect the overall Observability ecosystem.
  • Be a mentor and source of advanced knowledge for more junior team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Perform other duties as requested.


BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICAITIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum four (4) years of Network, System Administration, DevOps and Troubleshooting experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Scripting experience
  • Minimum one (4) year of Container Services


Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Must be familiar with solution implementation on Kubernetes and Docker Swarm architectures.
  • Must be able to design DR/HA enterprise grade solutions leveraging resiliency and availability tools implicit in the containerized platform tool kit.
  • Must have implemented [desired] or leveraged [required] code release management pipelines across lower-level environments to automatically manage progression, verification, and approval of code through the development lifecycle.
  • Must be capable of managing and configuring containerized platforms including configuration for pod replication, image reboot and autoscaling techniques.
  • Experience working in the Observability space and familiar with the containerized deployment and support of applications such as, Grafana/Kibana, Prometheus, Telegraf, MIMIR and Influx or other timeseries database implementation. Elastic/Logstash and Loki log collection and management platforms.
  • Operational experience with private and public cloud service architecture.
  • Demonstrable collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Experience working in the Linux CLI (RedHat, CentOS, Rocky, Amazon Linux); specifically troubleshooting and providing administration for virtualized, containerized, and bare metal server implementations.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with a variety of cloud service models (e.g. Private, Public, Multi-Cloud).
  • High level scripting ability in one or more languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible).
  • Extensive experience with CI/ CD, automation, and configuration management tools (Ansible, Jenkins, JFrog, Git, GitLab, etc...)
  • Ability to create and manage complex Splunk queries, dashboards, alerts and reports.
  • Experience with cloud orchestration and container management applications (Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Swarm, Portainer, Rancher, etc...)
  • Extreme attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to produce technical and business documentation upon completion of tasks and assignments.
  • Self-starter, ability to manage tasks and projects end to end and lead the team to meet team outcomes.
  • Advanced problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification for one of the following (or similar): Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Public/Private Cloud Services [AWS...], CI/CD tools, Observability and Monitoring Platforms.

The pay for this position has a salary range of
$88,200.00 to $156,600.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
