Pay Range
This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.
Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for providing technical expertise including specification, design, risk assessment, and integration of various mechanical manufacturing equipment for large capital projects at various manufacturing facilities worldwide. In addition, provide various engineering services to JM locations as needed to support the business divisions manufacturing metrics.
Your Day to Day:
- Provide engineering expertise for the development of scopes, design standard adherence, full engineering execution or supervision of contract engineering on major capital projects. In addition, coordinate institutional knowledge transfer of proprietary and non-proprietary mechanical systems to manufacturing locations within the corporation.
- Provide general mechanical engineering knowledge to JM locations over a broad range of areas to meet business needs or priorities as required.
- Responsible for development of technical scopes and technical sections of project scopes as needed.
- Development of internal corporate standards, system guidelines, and general mechanical specifications to provide commonality and robustness of mechanical processes and project execution. In addition, responsible for internal maintenance and archiving of same standards, guidelines, and specifications.
- Ownership of corporate design standard to ensure applicability to modern design systems/software is ongoing and meeting capital project requirements.
- Participate and/or lead process safety reviews and/or risk assessments of mechanical systems including: PHA’s, MOC’s, FMEA’s, or other applicable risk assessments as needed.
- Coordinate corporate or division process leads on proprietary mechanical systems ensuring necessary engineering is completed to meet process or equipment expectations.
- Evaluate and make recommendations on competitive bids for equipment and services from a technical perspective, balancing process or safety risk, process requirements, and capital budget impacts.
- Ensure contractor/vendor requests for information are acted upon in a timely manner and develop bid request technical documentation and supplier lists as needed.
- Evaluate potential engineering firms and contractors as required for technical knowledge and experience.
- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed, driving for a zero-incident environment
- Make recommendations to improve the operation, reliability, and life of equipment used in the process.
- Participate in process improvements and provide innovation and recommendations to make process improvements in both day to day and long-term plant performance.
- Provide full project management execution for division and plant mechanical intensive projects on a limited basis in terms of duration and overall capital cost.
- Prepare final documentation covering assignments and issue internal research or engineering reports as required.
- Submit invention disclosures for all aspects of proprietary equipment or engineering as discovered to ensure long term business viability of manufacturing systems.
- May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, (chemical, electrical or mechanical) with a minimum of 3 years engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing industry.
- Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated high level of drive and initiative to complete assigned tasks and investigate and seek out improvement opportunities
- Works with limited guidance, effectively self-directed, both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
- Supervises/Leads individuals or a project team to achieve milestones and objectives by setting priorities and providing direction. Will provide feedback for performance evaluations.
- Experience managing contractors and sub-contractors, including bid process.
- Experience preparing estimates, schedules and project deliverables.
- Proven ability to negotiate and manage change
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Exposure to SAP systems a plus.
- Heavy travel required (30%-50%)
- Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility: May be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
- May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds.
