Senior Lead Platform Engineer - Microsoft Fabric
Job Summary:
The Cox Enterprise Data Solutions Team is seeking a Senior Lead Platform Engineer with expertise in Microsoft Fabric to join our Atlanta, GA team. This role will lead new projects, improve processes, and standardize data and analytics solutions on the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. The engineer will drive creative solutions for complex problems, ensuring consistent and scalable data integration and analytics.
As a thought leader and subject matter expert, this engineer will take ownership of configuring, securing, and optimizing the Fabric platform to support business and operational data needs. They will solve complex technical challenges, drive automation, and enhance self-service analytics capabilities to enable data engineers, analysts, and business users to work efficiently within a governed framework. This role operates in a matrixed environment, collaborating across Enterprise Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Analysis, and Citizen Developers. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous improvement, ensuring Fabric remains a high-performing, scalable, and frictionless data platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Fabric architecture, capabilities, and administration.
- Expertise in data warehousing, data lakes, and data integration practices.
- Manage workspaces, access controls, data quality checks, and lifecycle management.
- Configure and manage connections to databases, applications, and external services.
- Analyze system performance and optimize Fabric usage.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and roles within Fabric.
- Provision and manage compute capacities for data processing and analysis.
- Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory for user management and security.
- Automate platform tasks using PowerShell, Python, and Terraform.
- Design and manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform and Ansible.
- Lead and mentor a team of Fabric administrators.
- Proficient in Power BI, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Gateways.
- Develop requirements, designs, test scenarios, and deployment plans in an agile environment.
- Identify architectural issues and propose solutions.
- Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders to create secure, scalable solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 8 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 6 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 3 years' experience in a related field; or 20 years' experience in a related field.
- 7+ years in platform engineering, cloud administration, or data infrastructure.
- 1+ year of experience managing Microsoft Fabric in a production environment.
- 2+ years managing Azure services (Storage, Data Factory, Synapse).
- Experience automating platform tasks using PowerShell, Python, or Terraform.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years managing large-scale platform infrastructure.
- 5+ years of experience with data warehousing and cloud-based ecosystems.
- Expertise in Microsoft Fabric administration, governance, and performance tuning.
- 3+ years managing cloud infrastructure (notebooks, data pipelines, Spark).
- Proficiency in IaC using Terraform.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
USD 131,600.00 - 219,400.00 per year
Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary of $131,600.00 - $219,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
