The NeedFor over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Sr. Lead, Business Intelligence.
The Sr. Lead, Business Intelligence is a senior, hands-on technical leader responsible for stewarding the organization's enterprise data analytics capabilities. This role will define and execute the vision for how we use data to drive mission success by owning our hybrid BI ecosystem (Tableau and Microsoft Power BI), establishing robust governance, and developing high-impact analytical solutions. This individual will also provide secondary support for our enterprise integration platform (MuleSoft) and facilitate the stewardship of strategic machine learning models, focusing on tooling and automation. The ideal candidate is a strategic builder who can translate business needs into technical solutions, evangelize adoption and best practices, and foster a data-driven culture.
This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. This position is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.
This position reports to the Global Director of Operations Technologies and does not have direct reports. However, the role carries clear supervisory responsibility and accountability for external partnerships. The incumbent is responsible for planning, managing, and executing work through external vendors, including oversight of offshore development teams. This includes setting expectations, driving performance, ensuring delivery of outcomes, and holding vendors and third-party collaborators accountable to established standards. Leadership is exercised through strategic direction, technical expertise, influence, and consistent engagement with external teams.
Key Result Areas:Accountable for the enterprise strategy, governance, and adoption of the hybrid Business Intelligence ecosystem (Tableau and Microsoft Power BI). Responsible for the hands-on development and technical excellence of enterprise-level dashboards, data models, and analytical solutions. Accountable for the design and execution of a user enablement program that elevates data literacy and fosters a self-service analytics community. Facilitates the stewardship, governance, and operationalization of strategic machine learning models through tooling and automation leadership. Responsible for providing secondary support for the enterprise integration platform (MuleSoft), ensuring the reliability of data flows that fuel enterprise applications and analytics.
Responsibilities:BI Strategy & Governance (30%)
Partner with operations areas’ data leads and stewards to develop and execute the enterprise BI strategy, establishing clear guidelines for the use of Tableau and Power BI.
Partner to design and lead a lightweight, flexible BI Center of Excellence (CoE), enforcing enterprise-wide governance policies, standards, and best practices.
Oversee data governance, including data source certification, metadata management, and data quality assurance to develop a "single source of truth."
Manage content governance, defining the lifecycle for analytical content from development and validation to promotion and retirement.
Partner with stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into a prioritized BI and analytics roadmap.
BI Platform Development & Management (30%)
Lead the hands-on development of complex, high-impact enterprise dashboards and data models in both Tableau and Power BI.
Serve as the subject matter expert on advanced data modeling (e.g., star and snowflake schemas) and calculation languages (DAX for Power BI, LOD Expressions for Tableau).
Manage the administration, configuration, and performance of Tableau and Power BI platforms.
User Enablement & Data Culture (20%)
Design and deliver a comprehensive user enablement program to increase data literacy and drive the adoption of self-service analytics.
Create training materials, conduct workshops, and provide ongoing support to a diverse community of data users.
Cultivate and lead an internal analytics community of practice, mentoring data champions throughout the organization.
Advanced Analytics & ML Stewardship (10%)
Develop and manage a governance framework for the machine learning model lifecycle, including versioning, documentation, and monitoring.
Act as the steward for ML tooling, establishing best practices for managing model assets and code in repositories like GitHub.
Facilitate the automation of ML workflows (MLOps) and integrate model outputs into business processes using Power Platform or MuleSoft.
Enterprise Integration Support (10%)
Provide technical support for data integration and data flow, acting as a backup or secondary resource to the primary integration engineer/DBA.
Monitor the health of existing APIs and integration flows, performing initial triage, troubleshooting, and escalation of incidents.
Assist with the resolution of support tickets and the deployment of minor enhancements to existing integration solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or a related field.
5-7+ years of experience in (a) business intelligence, data engineering, or analytics role(s) with increasing responsibility.
Deep, hands-on expertise in developing and administering enterprise-scale BI platforms, with mastery of at least one of Tableau or Power BI, and strong proficiency in the other.
Expert-level SQL skills and a profound understanding of data engineering, data warehousing concepts, data modeling best practices, lake house architecture and associated enablement.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing BI governance frameworks and processes.
Mastery of full lifecycle dashboard development, troubleshooting, and advanced analytical calculation languages (e.g., DAX, Tableau LOD Expressions).
Familiarity with machine learning concepts, the model development lifecycle, and MLOps principles.
Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git/GitHub) and an understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Hands-on experience with an enterprise integration platform, preferably MuleSoft (monitoring, troubleshooting, or support).
Proficiency in Python for data processing and analysis is highly desired.
Familiarity with key enterprise applications and their data architecture (e.g., Salesforce, Workday).
