The Senior Benefits Specialist is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefits programs. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and provides expert guidance to both employees and management regarding health & welfare, retirement, leaves and other benefit offerings. The Senior Benefits Specialist collaborates closely with HR, payroll, and external vendors to optimize benefits processes and resolve employee inquiries.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, administer, and evaluate employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans and leaves of absence.
- Ensure all benefits programs comply with applicable federal, state and/or local laws and regulations, including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ACA.
- Serve as the primary contact for benefits-related questions, providing guidance and support to employees and management.
- Support annual open enrollment processes and support the communication of benefits changes or updates.
- Analyze benefits data and trends to recommend improvements or cost-saving measures.
- Manage relationships with benefits vendors and carriers.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, reports, and records related to benefits administration.
- Manage benefits audits for assigned programs, as required, and ensure accurate payroll deductions related to benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in benefits administration.
- Strong knowledge of benefits laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration software (preferably Workday).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to think strategically
- Demonstrated ability to lead own work and deliver on expected outcomes.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CEBS, CBP, SHRM) preferred.
- Highly organized, proactive and team player
- Highly collaborative and effective at influencing without authority
- Project management and communication skills
- Analytical, financial acumen and understanding of benefits budgeting and expense requirements
- Experience with Workday
- CEBS/CBP certification
