JOB FUNCTION

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position performs professional duties in creating, planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, marketing, and evaluating youth and adult sports programs and other recreation programs such as sports concessions and special events.  Current schedule is set from Tuesday – Saturday and subject to change due to seasonality. This position is site based where remote work is not allowed. 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Develop and implement sports programs to include marketing, organizing, developing, scheduling and implementing recreation sports programs. 
  1. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work as necessary.  
  1. Coordinates volunteer requests from the community; recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer coaches and staff. 
  1. Creates sports program descriptions for the District Activity Guide and social media posts.   
  1. Works closely with Parks and Facilities Maintenance team to ensure outdoor site program space for optimum conditions for program, drop-in, or rental participant safety and experience.  
  1. Oversees indoor gym, other indoor program areas, and equipment to ensure optimum program site conditions for drop-in, program and rental participant safety and experience. 
  1. Coordinates partnerships with various community agencies and other District departments to provide opportunities for successful recreation programs.  
  1. Oversees contacts and agreements with vendors, non-profits, schools, municipalities, etc. 
  1. Assist and attend a variety of training seminars, part-time staff meetings, coaching clinics, and community meetings. 
  1. Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; distributes supplies and equipment; orders supplies and equipment for programs. 
  1. Assists with public relation duties such as preparing and distributing flyers; works closely with the Communication Director on the District Activity Guide. 
  1. Creates team rosters, schedule leagues and tournaments; enforce rules and regulations of recreation and sports programs. 
  1. Processes background checks for all staff and volunteer coaches. 
  1. Assists with preparing and administrating individual program budgets; monitoring expenditures and revenues to meet Department cost recovery requirements. 
  1. Provide registration support, Rec-Trac program registration and reservation module, answer telephones, and maintain correspondence with other District staff members; respond to public inquiries about the facility and programs. 
  1. Coordinates and supervises part-time staff on weeknights, weekends and holidays. 
  1. Opens and closes the operations of the recreation court, field, facility or school. 
  1. Set up tables, sports equipment, chairs, and bleachers for classes and perform emergency custodial work. 
  1. Makes safety checks on the sports sites and eliminate hazards to ensure complete safety of the participants. Provide security for the building and grounds.  
  2. Manages concessions' operations including staffing, inventory control, and regulatory compliance at sports sites and events.
  3. Oversee field and court rentals through managing applications, executing rental agreements, and serving as the primary liaison between user groups and park maintenance teams.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

 

  1. Knowledge of a variety of youth and adult sports.    
  1. Knowledge of developing and administering recreation and sports programs; working knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports; and ability to oversee recreation and sports programs.  
  1. Ability to work in stressful situations; ability to stay calm and have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  1. Highly organized with the ability to maintain records, prepare reports and monitor budget. 
  1. Required to work evenings, night shifts, weekends and holidays. 
  1. Ability to establish and maintain effective & professional working relationships with co-workers, the public, and any outside organizations.  
  1. Excellent internal and external customer service skills. 
  1. Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to direct the work of others.  
  1. Knowledge of Rec Trac and Team Sideline desired; strong technical skills with ability to use technology to enhance operations.  
  1. Strong business acumen and ability to develop and manage budgets.  
  1. Regular schedule will include evenings, weekends and holidays.  Current schedule is set from Tuesday – Saturday and subject to change due to seasonality.

Work environment & physical activities: 

 

  1. Encompasses a wide range of duties with 50% of time spent in an office environment and 50% in the field. 
  1. May have to manage several projects at one time and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of the District. 
  1. May find the environment to be busy, noisy, and will need excellent organization and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks. 

 

Education & Experience: 

 

Must have a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, physical education, or another closely related field. Have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in public recreation. Must have a valid State of Colorado driver license; must also have or obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within 30 days of employment.
