Summary:
Butter is looking for a Solutions Engineer (SE) to join our team. This role is responsible for providing technical and product consultation to Butter customers across the sales cycle, with a strong emphasis on discovery and solution design. This role will also support implementation and active customers, as needed. Solutions Engineers at Butter are trusted technology advisors, understanding our merchants’ payments infrastructure and designing integrations that result in continuous payment optimization. Solutions Engineers also serve as important consultants internally, providing feedback to Butter’s Engineering and Product teams by providing insight into customer pain points and feature requests. This role is cross-functional, and will work in close collaboration with the Sales and Customer Success teams, as well as Product and Engineering teams.
About the Role:
You are a technical and consultative payment systems expert, capable of leading pre-sales conversations and guiding customers through integration design and architecture. You are able to design and implement integrations between merchants’ subscription management systems, payment service providers, and third party services. You are able to outline the architecture of a technical system, and jump between different levels of abstraction depending on the audience and type of engagement. For example, you are able to lead a technical deep-dive discussion with a customer’s engineering team or support a sales pitch to their executive team. You are able to push technical projects forward efficiently, while maintaining a long-term view of Butter’s product roadmap. You are a collaborative partner, who works cross-functionally with both commercial and product teams on defining customer relationships, product strategy and technical operations.
This role will have a strong emphasis on pre-sales engagements, working closely with Sales to drive technical alignment, solution design, and deal acceleration, while also contributing to post-sales success as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Sales as a technical resource during merchant engagements, from initial sales calls to implementation planning
- Manage merchant implementations, from technical scoping, to integration and system design, development, testing, and launch
- Become an expert in Butter’s suite of payment optimization products, and communicate the value to customers
- Research and design integrations into new payment service providers and subscription management systems
- Partner with Sales to qualify opportunities from a technical perspective and shape deal strategy
- Partner with Product Engineering to build new products and functionality that solve our merchants’ problems
- Identify opportunities to streamline pre-sales processes and improve prospect experience through tools, automation, or documentation
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3+ years in solutions or sales engineering, implementation management, technical support, software engineering or similar roles
- Proven experience supporting pre-sales efforts, including discovery, technical presentations, proof-of-concept design, and solution scoping
- Experience with programming languages, implementing APIs, and knowledge of system architecture and design
- Experience with payment systems, including design and implementation of integrations to payment gateways and processors
- Experience leading projects with external customers or partners
- Comfortable engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders, from engineers to executives
- Experience working cross-functionally at multiple levels of the organization to create processes, solve problems, and develop strategies
- Strategic thinking around revenue, marketing, and customer success by using data-driven insights to create plans of action
- Exceptional communications skills: writing, presenting, pitching
- Ability to proactively solicit, listen, and welcome constructive feedback, and adjust quickly
- Able to learn new concepts quickly, and think through complex problems with creativity and pragmatism
We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.
