Job Description:
Penn Mutual is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for delivering and supporting field enablement technologies within our Information Management and Technology organization. This role is accountable for driving the successful delivery of scalable, high-quality software solutions that enable business outcomes and enhance the experience of our customers.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in software engineering, experience leading and developing high-performing teams, and an understanding of the Life Insurance domain. Success in this role requires the ability to build trusted relationships across business and technology stakeholders, foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and partner closely with product leaders to align priorities and execute effectively against them.
Responsibilities
· Lead and manage a team of software engineers, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
· Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, setting clear expectations and goals, and ensuring alignment with company objectives.
· Oversee the design, development, and implementation of software solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and quality standards.
· Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define project requirements, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources effectively.
· Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering team, identifying opportunities for process optimization, tooling enhancements, and technology adoption.
· Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability, promoting open communication, feedback, and knowledge sharing among team members.
· Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including technical and non-technical audiences, to ensure alignment of technical initiatives with business goals.
· Manage and track project schedules, budgets, and resources, and ensure timely delivery of software solutions within scope and budget constraints.
Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
· 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality software solutions.
· Previous experience in a leadership or management role, with demonstrated success in leading and developing engineering teams.
· Strong technical background in software development, with proficiency in one or more programming languages and technologies.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and decisions to stakeholders at all levels.
· Proven track record of driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and achieving business objectives.
· Experience with agile development methodologies and project management tools.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with a focus on delivering results and meeting deadlines.
· Demonstrates a commitment to AI fluency by embracing AI tools and technologies to enhance individual and team performance, decision-making, and innovation.
Preferred
· Experience with AWS cloud computing platforms and technologies
· Knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and system integration.
· Certifications or professional credentials in relevant technologies or domains.
Base Salary Range - $145,000-$165,000
