Help Supersonic Software Take Flight

At Boom, interns dive straight into real aerospace problems—learning by doing alongside the engineers designing our supersonic airliner and the first purpose-built supersonic engine. You won’t be off to the side; you’ll be integrated directly in the teams shaping aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, control laws, and more. You’ll learn their world and apply your software skills to make their work faster, smarter, and safer.

No engineer here wastes time on tasks a computer can do better. Whether it’s shrinking week-long CFD runs, automating control workflows, pulling data together from across disciplines, or developing embedded systems that keep engines running safely, you’ll see how software drives aerospace forward—and you’ll get hands-on experience building those solutions.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer Intern, you will:

  • Learn and contribute to projects using Python, Golang, Typescript, and systems languages like C++ or Rust
  • Get hands-on with cloud services on AWS (S3, Batch, SQS, ECS, FSx, Lambda) and infrastructure-as-code tools like AWS CDK
  • Build or improve React front-end tools to help engineers visualize and interact with their data
  • Automate repetitive or error-prone workflows so engineers can focus on solving big problems
  • Assist in developing and testing embedded control software for jet engine systems, including simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments
  • Contribute to code reviews, unit testing, documentation, and exposure to safety-critical software practices
  • Work directly with aerospace engineers to understand their challenges and help design smarter, faster solutions

The Ideal Candidate

  • One year away from graduation in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or Structural Engineering (or similar)
  • Strong coding experience in at least one language such as Python, Golang, Typescript, C, C++, or Rust
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) and structured software development workflows
  • Strong communicator who thrives in collaborative, cross-disciplinary environments
  • Detail-oriented, motivated, and excited to learn through hands-on software and data applications
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment

What Will Set You Apart

  • Exposure to data-heavy workflows, numerical simulations, or scientific computing
  • A knack for automation—you see manual work and immediately think “could I script that?”
  • Side projects, class projects, or a GitHub repo that show you can build useful tools
  • Passion for aviation, propulsion, and building software and data tools that make complex systems work

Education & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience in embedded systems, robotics, control software, real-time programming, or cloud-native development

Work Location

Internships require 100% onsite at Boom's headquarters located at 6803 S Tucson Way, Centennial, CO 80112.
