Want to do something different? Come work with us at Koala Health! At Koala Health, we’re building better ways to support pet parents, veterinary clinics, and pharmacy operations through thoughtful, reliable technology. If you’re excited to help shape a better experience in pet health, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us move quickly, improve critical systems, and deliver high-quality experiences across the business. In this role, you’ll own projects from planning through production, working across product, operations, customer care, and other internal teams to build scalable, maintainable solutions. You’ll help shape technical direction, raise the bar on code quality, and contribute to systems that support ordering, prescriptions, fulfillment, payments, and customer experience.
What You'll Do:
- Own well-scoped work from requirements through release, ensuring solutions meet acceptance criteria and work effectively in real-world operational workflows
- Break down larger initiatives into clear milestones, identify dependencies early, and proactively surface blockers and risks
- Build production-quality, maintainable code that follows established standards and supports fast, safe iteration over time
- Design and implement resilient solutions that account for edge cases, failures, retries, and operational realities
- Add and maintain appropriate testing, validate changes in realistic scenarios, and document important behavior or process changes
- Partner closely with Product, Pharmacy Operations, Customer Care, Finance, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver strong outcomes
- Participate in code reviews, provide thoughtful technical input, and help improve engineering quality across the team
- Support releases, monitor production outcomes, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to follow-up improvements that prevent recurrence
- Participate in on-call and help drive incident investigation, resolution, and long-term reliability improvements
- Apply secure coding and compliance-minded practices when working with customer, prescription, operational, and payment-related systems
What You'll Need:
- 5+ years of experience building web applications and APIs, including experience working with relational databases
- Experience working across both front-end and back-end development
- Strong product sense and the ability to understand business needs, stakeholder priorities, and customer experience when designing and building solutions
- A high degree of ownership, accountability, and initiative, with the ability to independently drive projects and take responsibility for outcomes
- Strong engineering judgment and high standards for code quality, maintainability, and long-term system health
- Comfort working on a small, high-impact team with significant autonomy and responsibility
- Proven ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies and business needs, and tackle unfamiliar challenges with curiosity and confidence
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions
Why you'll love working at Koala:
- You'll find us a warm, pet-loving team who values teaching, learning, and helping each other out
- We are a remote-first company offering our employees the flexibility of working from home
- We offer a competitive salary and a chance to take part in the company's success via equity
- We cover medical, dental, and vision insurance with partial coverage for your partner and dependent
- We offer unlimited PTO, a 401k retirement account, and any work-from-home tools & equipment you need to support your own office needs
