🌊 Summer 2025 Design Internship | Where Creativity Meets Innovation

At DigitalOcean, we’re not just designing interfaces—we’re redefining how people connect with technology. AI is changing everything, and we need bold, visionary designers who want to challenge the norm, break the rules, and create something entirely new.

If you’re ready to experiment, prototype, and rethink digital experiences, this internship is your chance to work on AI-powered copilots—intelligent assistants that elevate workflows, simplify complexity, and empower users to do more with less.

This is not about building another chatbot. This is about crafting seamless, intuitive interactions that feel second nature to users.

Why This Internship Will Change You (and the Industry)

  • Design Without Limits: Explore big, wild ideas and bring them to life with real users.
  • Shape the Future of AI UX: Your work will define how developers and businesses interact with AI.
  • Work at the Edge of Innovation: You’ll experiment with AI, voice, automation, and new interaction models.
  • Collaborate with the Best: Work alongside top UX designers, researchers, AI engineers, and product thinkers.
  • Your Voice Matters: You’ll present your work to product teams and leadership, shaping actual product direction.
  • Prototype, Test, Iterate: This is a playground for ideas. Sketch, wireframe, prototype, and refine until something magical happens.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A design student or recent graduate who thrives on exploration, iteration, and problem-solving.
  • Passionate about UX/UI, human behavior, and designing experiences that feel like magic.
  • Figma wizardry (or at least solid skills in prototyping, wireframing, and UI design).
  • Curious about AI/ML and how it can elevate human experiences.
  • A thinker and a doer – You dream big but also know how to execute.
  • A storyteller – You can communicate your vision and get others excited about it.
  • A UX and visual designer looking to make powerful choices and push the boundaries of what is typically found in cloud computing experiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Dive into User Research: Understand real user needs, frustrations, and dreams.
  • Sketch the Future: Design new interaction models and rethink workflows with AI in mind.
  • Prototype AI-Powered Ideas: Turn concepts into high-fidelity designs and test them with users.
  • Innovate on Copilot Experiences: Explore how AI can make DigitalOcean’s platform smarter, faster, and more intuitive.
  • Present Your Vision: Share your work with stakeholders, influencing real product decisions.

Key Deliverables

  • User research insights that uncover copilot opportunities.
  • Conceptual designs & interactive prototypes showcasing innovative solutions.
  • A roadmap for AI-driven UX enhancements that DigitalOcean can implement.
  • A final presentation that tells the story of your design journey—your big ideas, the experiments, the breakthroughs.

Tools & Skills You’ll Use

  • Figma, Prototyping Tools: Your design playground.
  • User Research: Empathy-driven insights that fuel smart design decisions.
  • AI & Automation Concepts: Understanding AI’s role in UX innovation.
  • Iterative Design & Testing: Rapid experimentation, testing, and refinement.
  • Storytelling & Communication: Sell your vision, influence stakeholders, and make an impact.

Internship Dates: June 16, 2025 – August 8, 2025

  • Remote-first (Must be based in Austin, Denver, SF Bay Area, or Seattle).
  • Ready to push boundaries, challenge assumptions, and create AI-powered experiences that feel effortless?

What we expect to see

  • A portfolio of screen-based experiences
  • Evidence of a strong design process
  • Compelling UX design with thoughtful interaction patterns
  • Detailed visual design showcases a mastery of typography for the screen
