Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

An Infrastructure Software Engineer at Ursa Major is responsible for maintaining the software that supports our avionics and test systems. Working within a small team, you'll help ensure that our internal software remains reliable and functional while supporting configuration control and production build systems. This role requires a detail-oriented and pragmatic approach to meet evolving development needs and maintain high product performance. Your collaborative efforts will contribute to ongoing improvements in our systems, ensuring our products are both robust and maintainable.

Responsibilities:

  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment Pipeline Management:
  • Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines, specifically managing GitHub runners and related automation tools.
  • Monitor pipeline performance and implement improvements to reduce build and deployment times.
  • Testing Infrastructure:
  • Maintain and update automated test suites to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Collaborate with QA and development teams to integrate new tests and resolve issues.
  • Configuration & Hardware Management:
  • Oversee hardware configuration and management, ensuring all systems are up-to-date and secure.
  • Implement and maintain configuration management best practices across environments.
  • Software & Web Tool Maintenance:
  • Provide minor fixes and enhancements to internal software tools and web applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues across systems, ensuring minimal downtime and prompt resolution.
  • Collaboration & Documentation:
  • Work cross-functionally to identify process improvements and share best practices.
  • Maintain clear and thorough documentation for pipelines, test setups, configuration management, and incident resolutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and related tooling.
  • Solid experience in configuration management and maintaining hardware/software infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (such as Python, Bash, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues across various systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure management (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies and DevOps best practices.
  • Working knowledge of HDL and FPGA operation
  • Familiarity with RTOS and/or Linux kernel code
