Build and ship full-stack SaaS features across database, API, and interface layers. Own work end to end, including scoping, implementation, testing, rollout, and post-release operations. Collaborate with product, design, and support; improve system reliability and performance; review code; participate in on-call; and mentor teammates. The role uses Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, relational databases, SQL, observability tools, and AI-assisted development workflows.

Modern software runs on open source — and managing the compliance, security, and regulatory complexity that comes with it is one of the biggest problems facing engineering and legal teams today. FOSSA is the platform they use to address these challenges. We help thousands of organizations automate license compliance, prioritize vulnerabilities, generate and operationalize SBOMs, and meet regulatory requirements. Whether it's scanning AI-generated code for IP risks or helping a company through M&A due diligence, FOSSA gives teams the confidence to ship software they trust.

FOSSA is a rapidly growing series-B company with a truly distributed team. While our roots are in San Francisco, our growing team has members in several countries across many time zones. We’re always working to find the perfect balance of effective approaches to distributed work, while maintaining the direct personal connections that help us work better together and love our jobs.

About the Role

The Core team owns the heart of the FOSSA product: the application our customers log into every day, the APIs and integrations they build on, and the data model everything else depends on. It is where the majority of customer-facing work lands, which means you will see the impact of what you build almost immediately.

This is a full-stack role. You will work across the product, from the database up through the API to the interface, and you will own features end to end rather than handing them off at a boundary. We are looking for someone who cares about the whole outcome: the design, the code, the rollout, and what happens after it ships.

This is a full-stack role. You will work across the product, from the database up through the API to the interface, and you will own features end to end rather than handing them off at a boundary. We are looking for someone who cares about the whole outcome: the design, the code, the rollout, and what happens after it ships.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and ship full-stack features that customers use daily, from database schema through to interface.
  • Own your work end to end, including scoping, implementation, testing, rollout, and follow-through once it is live.
  • Work in a variety of languages and tools, including Node.js, TypeScript, React, and Postgres.
  • Partner with product, design, and support to turn customer problems into working software.
  • Improve the reliability and performance of a system that runs at meaningful scale for large enterprise customers.
  • Review code thoughtfully and help raise the quality bar for the team.
  • Take part in an on-call rotation and help make the systems you own easier to operate.
What We're Looking For
  • Demonstrated experience building and shipping scalable SaaS products, with real ownership of what you built.
  • Experience as a full-stack software engineer owning and building features end-to-end.
  • Solid experience with relational databases and writing performant SQL queries.
  • Experience working in a large existing codebase, including proactivity in sharing ideas and informed opinions with others.
  • Experience with agentic tooling and AI-assisted workflows, or a strong interest in getting good at using them. We use these tools daily and expect them to keep changing how we build.
  • Ability to break down complex problems, drive towards a solution, and communicate it with the team and other stakeholders (both verbally and written).
  • You thrive in an environment that prefers prototypes over proposals.
  • Ability to mentor and be mentored by others.
  • Experience with observability tooling.
  • A growth mindset and willingness to learn new things.
  • Attention to detail and quality to anticipate edge cases ahead of time.
Why you'll love working at FOSSA
  • Amazing team culture and environment
  • Named by Built In as Best Start-up to work for 2024, 2025, 2026 and Forbes 2022
  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Unlimited PTO
