Summary

The Temporal Cloud Foundations group is looking for a Software Engineer with experience building reliable and scalable distributed systems in production. In this role, you’ll help develop and improve the infrastructure that powers the Temporal Cloud Platform. You’ll work closely with teammates to design, build, and operate services that support our customers. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience with the Temporal open source server and our cloud services while contributing to the foundation of our platform. This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are curious, collaborative, and excited about building infrastructure for a hyper-growth company.  [This is not an internal deployment role]

What You’ll Do

  • Work with the team to design and implement features for our Cloud Operational API, Temporal Workflows, Enterprise Features and data pipelines.
  • Help build a strong developer experience for Temporal Cloud customers.
  • Contribute to short-term projects while supporting the team in shaping long-term plans.
  • Make practical technical trade-offs that balance customer needs, reliability, and system performance.
  • Take part in improving our tools (operational tool, CI/CD, Deployment), processes, and development practices.
  • Develop production-ready systems with appropriate monitoring, alerts, and runbooks.

What You Bring to Us

  • Experience working on scalable distributed systems in a production environment.
  • Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including concurrency and multi-threading.
  • Experience writing concurrent code in a language like Go, Java, or similar.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and/or building components of Cloud Control Planes.
  • Interest in creating a great customer experience and representing user needs in technical discussions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in small, collaborative teams.
  • Experience contributing across the lifecycle of services, from design to ongoing operations.

  • Experience tuning and optimizing the performance of distributed systems.
  • Exposure to operating cloud infrastructure in production environments.
Compensation
  • The estimated pay range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000 depending on experience and location.
  • This role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan.
Compensation ranges reflect salary and commission compensation (when applicable) across several geographic markets. Employment offers carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, knowledge, expertise, skillset, market location, and job level assessed during the interview process.
