Lead delivery for the Payroll development team, contribute as a senior full-stack developer, mentor engineers, partner with Product to translate roadmap into shipped features, champion AI-assisted development tools, ensure quality and reliability of payroll and tax functionality, and support production issue resolution.
Role Summary
The Development Lead owns delivery for Greenshades' Payroll product line, leading a team of engineers responsible for building and evolving core payroll and tax functionality. This role combines hands-on senior-level technical contribution with people leadership, mentoring the team while partnering closely with Product Management to translate priorities into shipped, reliable software. Greenshades is moving increasingly AI-first across engineering, and this role is expected to actively use and champion AI-assisted development tools and practices as a core part of how the team works, not as an optional add-on.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day delivery for the Payroll development team, ensuring committed work ships on time and at a high quality bar.
- Contribute directly as a senior-level developer on complex Payroll and Tax features, setting the technical standard for the team.
- Mentor and uplevel engineers on the team, including code review, technical guidance, and career development.
- Partner closely with the Payroll Product Manager to translate roadmap priorities into scoped, sequenced engineering work.
- Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., AI coding assistants and agentic development workflows) as a standard part of daily engineering work, and drive adoption of these practices across the team.
- Evaluate and champion new AI-augmented engineering practices and tooling as Greenshades' AI-first development approach continues to evolve.
- Partner with the Sustainability team to ensure smooth knowledge transfer of new Payroll features and to resolve production issues affecting payroll processing.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs, risks, and status clearly to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building full-stack solutions using languages and frameworks such as C#, Angular, and SQL.
- 2+ years of experience mentoring, leading, and collaborating with others on projects and solutions.
- 2+ years of experience in HCM (Human Capital Management) software or a related domain.
- Hands-on experience with Git and Azure-based development workflows.
- Strong background in full-stack design and development, from database through UI.
- Experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience designing and building Web API / REST interfaces.
- Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted and agentic software development practices, and a willingness to adopt and champion these tools as a core part of the job — this is not a role for someone resistant to AI-augmented engineering.
- Comfort operating with support from a dedicated Product Manager on prioritization, while still exercising sound engineering judgment day to day.
