Job Description

The Ski Patrol Supervisor provides leadership in maintaining a safe, well-organized, and welcoming mountain environment for both guests and employees. This role oversees daily patrol operations, ensuring effective coordination with department leaders and supervisors to support safety, medical response, and mountain readiness. With a focus on operational excellence and guest engagement, the Ski Patrol Supervisor fosters a culture of professionalism and service on the mountain. This position reports to the Ski Patrol Director.

  • The budgeted salary range for this position is $75,000 - 83,000. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.

Essential Job Functions

  • Direct daily mountain operations in partnership with department leaders, ensuring seamless coordination, accurate documentation, and a strong guest service focus
  • Lead patrol staff by setting expectations, monitoring performance, delivering feedback, and assisting with hiring, scheduling, timekeeping, discipline, and performance reviews
  • Manage patrol stations, overseeing daily operations, equipment readiness, and terrain openings
  • Actively engage with guests to provide assistance and enhance the on-mountain experience
  • Ensure thorough execution of lift operations and evacuation procedures; oversee patrol participation in evacuations under the guidance of Lift Evacuation Technicians or Coordinators
  • Monitor and evaluate mountain conditions, trail status, communication systems, guest flow, and hazard mitigation strategies
  • Direct avalanche control, snow safety efforts, and guest transport as operational needs require
  • Support training and professional development for patrollers, maintaining accurate records in collaboration with supervisors and training staff
  • Communicate operational updates, trail maintenance, and directives from the Patrol Director to patrol staff
  • Implement the Incident Command System (ICS) when required to lead emergency response and coordinate resources effectively
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as required to support mountain operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification with American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a ski patroller, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100–400 certifications, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
  • Must meet all requirements of an Advanced Patroller
  • Must be expert skier capable of safely navigating all terrain and weather conditions

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrates expertise in technical aspects of ski patrol operations
  • Thorough knowledge of the Skiers Safety Act regarding marking of ski area boundaries and trail closures
  • Proficient knowledge of industry trends, best practices, mountain safety standards, and company policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and timekeeping and scheduling software
  • Skilled in collaborating with others to achieve team and operational goals while developing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and guests
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures, exercising caution in all operational activities
  • Able to identify and address discrepancies in work performance, operational procedures, or guest feedback
  • Capable of engaging with guests in a positive, professional, and helpful manner
  • Demonstrates ability to lead, manage, and mentor a team while fostering accountability and high performance
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, completing tasks to a high standard in adverse weather conditions for extended periods

Additional Information

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time    
  • Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces   
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
